Feminism, what does that word mean today anyway ? So I started by looking it up and found this definition...
Fem·i·nism: the theory of the political, economic, and social equality of the sexes
And another one and another one. The more I looked, the more confused I became with what this word even meant, and it wasn't just me.
I found hundreds of articles and videos of people talking about what feminism means. They were all different in their own way. But something tells me there are a lot more 'meanings' out there. The truth is, if you ask anyone what feminism means you'll get a different definition.
So what the hell is the point of this page ? Good question, well this page is not about the word feminism its about an idea.
An Idea that human beings have been fighting with each-other and themselves about for as long as we have been on the planet.
The idea is quite simple. each of us simply wants to be treated with respect and dignity. Given the same opportunity as the other to succeed and fulfil their potential in life . Throughout history we have found different ways of denying this from each-other. We use anything that is a different between us, anything that we don't share to make ourselves better than someone else or someone else less important than we are. We use...
Fortunately we are fighters by nature. When we are threatened we fight.
One of these many ideas that we continue to fight for is the right for women and men to be given the same opportunities to succeed as the other. To be respected and treated with dignity as equals. You can call this feminism, equality, freedom, women's rights or a multitude of other things. It really doesn't matter what word you use. You don't even have to define it if you don't want to. The only thing that matters is if we treat ourselves and those around us the same way we want to be treated in return.
So lets not worry so much about the words and how to define or explain the things we do. Instead, lets focus on just living them out. Because we as the human race need to move forward. It how we survive. It is also a never ending process. The more we evolve the newer the challenges we face. We just have to continue to work on finding ways to solve them one act at a time.
