Headteacher Comment

Greenfields Primary School and Nursery were delighted to welcome back nearly 40% of the children in Early Years (Nursery and Reception classes) and Years 1 and 6. The entire school staff pulled together, with the support of the David Ross Education Trust, to make sure that the environment that the children have returned to is as safe, hygienic and stimulating as possible, whilst trying their hardest to keep lots of familiar elements hat make Greenfields the school they know and love. We are fortunate to have really extensive playgrounds and our massive field, so wherever possible, learning is being taken outside so that children can exercise their legs as well as stretching their brains, after a long period in lockdown.

Everyone who returned this week has been learning new rules for being in school and we've been sharing videos to help the children understand what we can and can't do, and what we can do instead:

At the moment, the Government is only asking to schools to take children back from EYFS, Years 1 and 6, but if the guidance changes, I will let you know. In the meantime, in other year groups, and for children who haven't returned, learning at home is carrying on via Google Classrooms, Mathletics, TT Rockstars and Tapestry. Celebration Assembly is continuing on Zoom, while we all still can't meet together in the hall.

Catch up with this week's Celebration Assembly on Google Classroom

The children who returned to Greenfields this week overwhelmingly agreed that although their online learning had kept them very busy at home during lockdown and they had enjoyed the weekly Celebration Assembly on Zoom, they had missed their learning with friends and their teachers. In the end, Greenfields’ children all agree….’there’s no place like school!’

Fun in the Forest for Year 1

London Bridge is Not Falling Down!

Wow! What an amazing piece of learning Oana has started at home. In Reception we are learning all about London and she has started to create her home learning project about London with this fantastic model of Tower Bridge that she has made with her dad. How impressive?

Design and Technology in Nursery

The 2 year old room have been busy learning about castles and what we think one might look like and who might live inside. “It’s for the princess”. They have enjoyed seeing their friends again. They have also been exploring how the movements they make with the diggers and water can leave marks on the floor. It has been great fun following the tracks we made.

Celebration Assembly Competition Time.

In the olden days when school was very different, our amazing Greenfields teachers awarded our students who achieved 100% attendance for the previous 5 days, and their names were entered into a hat for the Foody Friday Prize Draw. We cannot do this now that we are teaching from home. Did this stop the awesome team of dedicated Greenfields Staff? No it did not! The lovely Mrs Tyrrell-Smith did not let this deter her efforts to reward our hard working pupils, and there is a competition in every assembly, so watch out for this every Friday Morning. See below for some of our winners so far!

Northamptonshire Education Awards 2020

You may remember that last year Greenfields Primary School and Nursery won Primary School of the Year at the Northamptonshire Education Awards 2019. We were so proud of this fabulous recognition of our school. The Northamptonshire Education Awards 2020 will be hosted on 17th July at Wicksteed Park and parents are now able to nominate their child's school. Lots of our staff and parents are not only working from home, but are also teaching their own children. I am sure you can appreciate how difficult this can be! With that in mind we would love for you to nominate Greenfields Primary School and Nursery for our OUTSTANDING education.

We are on Facebook and Twitter!
