My Journey Riya Bhula

Past

My journey before high school was fun. I made a lot of new friends and I made some new experiences. I didn't think about my future so much, it was just there. I cared too much about what others thought of me. From sixth grade to eighth, I learned why it shouldn't matter at all about what others think of me. I shouldn't act, dress, or speak a certain way that someone would want me to. My friends taught me how to do that. I also made good grades. "I am not someone who is ashamed of my past. I'm actually really proud. I know I made a lot of mistakes, but they, in turn, were my life lessons." -Drew Barrymore

These people made my life easier and I had a fun time in middle school. I made great new friends, I had fun, I learned a lot, and the teachers also taught me many things. "We keep moving forward, opening new doors, and doing new things, because we're curious and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths." -Walt Disney

I also focused a lot on education in sixth grade, I started easing up on myself in the eighth grade though. I got the three year 4.0 GPA award and I had to say a speech in front of a really big crowd. I have always been told to have a 4.0 GPA. To always have good grades and do get 100% on every assignment. You could say that I have bad experiences on getting good grades, but it's fine. "Screaming at children over their grades, especially to the point of the child's tears, is child abuse, pure and simple. It's not funny and it's not good parenting. It is a crushing, scarring, disastrous experience for the child. It isn't the least bit funny." -Ben Stein

Present

At the beginning of this year, I realized that I need to start worrying about my future. I don't want to end up like my parents, I want to have a better life than them. I am enjoying high school, because you get to meet more amazing people. Getting good grades is getting harder, but I'm still at a 4.0. I also learned how to stand up for myself and not let anyone mess with me. "Even the nicest people have their limits." -Unknown

These are the people that are close to me this year. I have made some good experiences with all of them. I don't hang out with some of the same people I used to because plainly, I never see them anymore. I also got to go to Mexico, it's a great place. "Sometimes your circle decreases in size, but increases in value." -Unknown

I still have a 4.0 GPA and I am doing pretty good this semester. I care more about getting good grades now and I haven't joined any sports. "I am not a sports girl." -Dianna Agron

The Future

I want to be graduate college and became either an orthodontist or pharmacist. I want to have a 4.0 GPA all throughout high school. I want to have good friends and start a nice family. "Never give up, and be confident in what you do. There may be tough times, but the difficulties which you face will make you more determined to achieve your objectives and to win against all the odds." -Marta

Advice for 2021

  • Don't be so hard on yourself when it comes to assignments. If you are having a bad grade then try actually turning in your work on time with good effort, you'll have good grades.
  • Pay attention to what the teacher teaches in class because it actually helps. If you didn't pay attention, and you were zoned out for half of the time, you would have to keep asking the teacher what she/he said.
  • Make good friends while you're in high school. Also, you need to stand up for yourself. Many friends will leave you, but you will also get better ones.
  • Lastly, make good memories in high school. High school might seem awful right now, but you'll regret not making it fun in the future. Take chances and make new experiences.
