PROJECT PROGRESS

INTRODUCING...

KK : Architecture

Outside of my architecture world, I have been doing pottery for a while now. It is a great stress reliever, and I absolutely love it. I started an online Etsy shop, KreativeKraftsByLoy, not long ago to sell my pottery art, so feel free to check them out!

JOHN : Architecture

I am pleased to join HKS as someone who arrives from a different format than most….from a smaller private firm I started over 30 years ago coupled with construction management along the way. During that time, 2 adopted daughters (Colombia), two “natural” daughters and then two stepchildren have kept my wife and I sorting through the drama and the joy.

SCOTTISH RITE VERTICAL EXPANSION

By: Emilie Lindberg

For a recent OAC meeting, I joined Steven and John at Scottish Rite to check out the newly finished fourth floor. This floor is part of a multi-floor renovation project. While we were walking around checking the new space, the staff was preparing to see their first patients. I briefly talked to one of the Nurse Managers we work with on the project, and she was a little stressed with the move but of course was excited to be in the new space. I checked out the breakroom and it was already being enjoyed by some staff checking out the new design. They both told me jokingly how this space is probably the new best break room in the hospital. For me, I was thrilled to hear the users being excited about something I helped create. Below are some in-progress shots of the 5th floor.

AMANA ACADEMY: BE THE CHANGE

Stewardship and responsibility are the two core principles of Amana Academy. The title of the school's 8th grade expedition is "Be the Change". Zia, Sammy and Taylor worked with the 8th grade class to create change through sustainability by introducing concepts for an Energy Conservation Plan. The goal of their presentation was to help guide the students so that they can "be the change" when it comes to jump starting a school-wide energy efficiency program. By the end of the presentation the students were able to answer the following 5 questions:

  1. What is EUI?
  2. What is the difference between Power and Energy?
  3. What is an example of a Passive Strategy?
  4. How does saving Water save Energy?
  5. Which is better, a Circular or Linear Economy?

See the presentation below to find out the answers and more!

"I felt extremely flattered and proud. I also was actively picking up dog poop when I found out – a gentle reminder of my place in the grand scheme of life." -Barbara

"When I was announced I was, and still am, very grateful. I have had many great experiences at HKS and a professional lifetime of memories with so many people. This means a lot." - Mark

Shout out to Zia Musa for his work volunteering with the AIA Architects of Tomorrow leading a sketching tour of the Zuckerman Museum.
