Michigan Sailing Team 2016 Year in review

Spring Break Training

We started our year in St. Petersburg, FL while the snow was still falling in Ann Arbor.

We sailed all day every day for a week straight to improve our skills.

We qualified for both Team Racing nationals and Coed Fleet Racing semifinals in April.

In June we flew out to San Diego, California to compete in College Sailing Nationals once again.

We finished 16/18 in the LaserPerformance Team Race Nationals and 15/18 in the Gill Coed Western Semifinal.

We learned so much from competing against the best teams in the country, and we're looking forward to next year!

Intercollegiate Offshore Regatta

We finished first in our class and 4th/45 overall at the 2016 Intercollegiate Offshore Regatta in Larchmont, NY. We sailed in Class 1 IRC on Antidote, a J/133 owned by Ron Richman. With winds ranging from light and varible to 25+ knots, this regatta was an absolute blast!

Alumni Regatta

We enjoyed having over 18 alumni of all different ages come sail with us on a foggy Base Line Lake. The competition was stiff as the rusty sailors worked to get their roll tack magic back.

Other Highlights

We have over 25 new team members
We finished 6th/10 at Kennedy Cup, the Collegiate Keelboat National Championship.
We competed at 21 regattas all across the country this year.
