WHO WE ARE

ChamberCHOPS, the CHamber Music CoOPerative of the Southwest, is a supportive, community-based group of performing musicians in mixed ensembles of winds, brass, strings, piano and vocalists. Throughout the year, we rehearse and perform together without a conductor. We work collectively and collaboratively to share our love of music with the Albuquerque community and surrounding areas. Our concerts remain FREE and we welcome everyone, young and old, to come and enjoy performances of pieces from a wide variety of styles, eras, and composers.

MUSIC

Our repertoire, ranging from Baroque to contemporary, includes the great works of Mozart, Beethoven and Strauss as well as more modern composers such as Hindemith, Ligeti, Joplin and Duke Ellington. We have performed works that include anywhere from two to thirteen players. We program pieces based on suggestions from our musicians as well as our audience members and the community.

PHILOSOPHY

CHOPS performs without a conductor and without an official Music Director. Our musicians participate as “directors” by submitting the music they want to play each season to the Board of Directors. Suggestions from the community and concert-goers are also strongly encouraged and considered when programming concerts. Our goal is to introduce musical variety into all of our concerts. However, we have been known to occasionally program around a “theme” including featuring the works of local composers such as Michael Mauldin.

METHOD

Currently, ChamberCHOPS delivers four chamber concerts a year. We also provide musical support to the community through performances at schools, libraries, churches, synagogues, senior communities and for organizational fundraisers.

OUR HISTORY

ChamberCHOPS was started in 2009 by passionate amateur and semi-professional musicians looking for a more efficient way to network and coordinate with other like-minded players. We now have over fifty regularly participating artists.
