His background is in telecommunications, as he earned a degree in Computer Science at the University of Amsterdam. However, when he moved back to Canada and settled in Banff in 2003 he fell completely head over heels for the outdoor industry and obtained a certificate in the Wilderness Program at Capilano University.
Anthony met Timo Bolder, Founder of Rent-A-Tent Canada, through a few friends who had recently rented camping gear through the program. Anthony and Timo immediately hit it off and Timo asked him to be a part of the empire.
For 8 consecutive years, Anthony and Timo have worked together to refine their product and offer guests camping rental gear in both Canmore and Vancouver.
For Anthony, it’s important to offer the highest-quality equipment so that your experience out “in the bush” is a positive and successful one. For example, they only offer North Face and Marmot tents, which are easy to set up, good quality and are guaranteed not to leak - phew!
Anthony ensures that all of the employees that he hires are IGA certified guides so that as a guest you can expect to head out into the wild fully prepared for anything that might come your way.
They will make sure you not only have a Bear Safety Kit but that you know how to properly use it. You will also receive a ‘Wild Smart Talk’ as the Rent-A-Tent team ensure you know the best practices for interacting with the various wildlife that you will encounter in the Rockies.
Each package you choose from will guarantee you everything you need to cook, set up your site, and enjoy a comfortable camping experience. The guides will also make sure you know how all of your equipment works before letting you head out on your adventure so that you leave as an expert explorer ready to obtain stories of the Canadian Rockies.
Aside from various lengths of trips around the Banff and Canmore area they also offer the option to take a one-way trip to Vancouver - or a return trip if you’re coming from the coast.
Partnering with local companies to enhance your experience is something that is also extremely important to Anthony. Currently, they have a strong partnership with Natrivia, a resource that shows campers all the information they need to know about campsites in the area so that you can book a trip that’s tailored to your specific needs.
Ironically, Anthony says most of his clientele come from the States and Europe, probably due to his expertise in website SEO. This is his favourite part, because it allows him to share an all-Canadian experience and the beauty of the Rockies with those who have no idea what it’s like to camp in Canada for the first time!
