Venez découvrir dès le 4 mai l’œuvre de Joseph Mallord William Turner (1775 - 1851), figure majeure de la peinture anglaise du XIXe siècle. Cette exposition est conçue et organisée en partenariat avec le Turner Contemporary de Margate (Angleterre).Plaçant au cœur de son parcours la couleur, essence même de la création de Turner, cette exposition invite à redécouvrir la vie et l’œuvre de ce grand artiste sous un angle nouveau, jusqu’à présent inexploré dans les rétrospectives qui lui ont été dédiées. Dans un parcours à la fois chronologique, thématique et géographique, vous êtes invités à suivre les évolutions de la palette de Turner. Les premières toiles et aquarelles montrent comment le jeune peintre autodidacte s’est confronté aux grands coloristes du passé, de Rembrandt à Poussin, de Titien à Claude Lorrain, avant de perfectionner une technique très personnelle grâce à l’observation aigüe des phénomènes naturels et de leurs variations chromatiques inépuisables.

This exhibition is conceived and organized in partnership with the Turner Contemporary in Margate (England) .This exhibition invites visitors to rediscover the life and work of this great artist at the heart of his journey, the color, the very essence of Turner's creation From a new angle, hitherto unexplored in the retrospectives devoted to it. In a chronological, thematic and geographical itinerary, you are invited to follow the evolutions of the Turner palette. The first paintings and watercolors show how the young self-taught painter confronted the great colourists of the past, from Rembrandt to Poussin, from Titian to Claude Lorrain, before perfecting a very personal technique thanks to the acute observation of natural phenomena and Their inexhaustible chromatic variations, seized on the spot, in the open air.

Né à Londres le 23 avril 1775, Turner étudia à l'Académie royale des beaux-arts où il exposa dès l'âge de quinze ans et jusqu'en 1850. Il fut élu membre associé de l'Académie en 1799 puis membre à part entière trois ans plus tard. Turner voyagea beaucoup tout au long de sa carrière, en Angleterre, en écosse, et, après la paix d'Amiens en 1802, en France et en Suisse, puis en Italie.De 1807 à 1828, il enseigna la perspective à l'Académie royale et, en 1845, obtint un poste de professeur suppléant. Ses premières œuvres sont surtout des aquarelles et ses sujets des paysages. à la fin des années 1790, il commença à exposer ses premières peintures à l'huile, auxquelles il imprégna la vibration chromatique présente dans ses aquarelles.

Born in London on April 23, 1775, Turner studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts, where he exhibited from the age of fifteen to 1850. He was elected associate member of the Academy in 1799 and then a separate member Three years later. Turner traveled extensively throughout his career in England and Scotland, and after the peace of Amiens in 1802, France and Switzerland, and then in Italy. From 1807 to 1828 he taught perspective at the Academy And in 1845 obtained a position as a substitute teacher. His first works are mainly watercolors and his landscapes subjects.
