Working Smarter, Not Harder Running the Academy by the numbers

Who we are?

Drs. Yolanda Columbus and Shawnda Floyd

Why it is required in Higher Education, in general?

Because expectations and needs change faster than we as individuals can adjust our decision-making habits. We are predictably irrational when it comes to making decisions

Because we are leading even when we don't know it and lives depend on it.

Why now at North Lake?

While faculty are ensuring that students encounter the beauty innate in achieving a milestone and learning,

We as administrators attempt to buffer our faculty so that they may succeed. We address the break neck speed at which policies, procedures and practices change and influence funding models, accountability, national trends, etc.

All the while our regulatory bodies and oversight agencies are becoming increasingly more interested in the quantitative stories told by numbers

Framework published by the Education Advisory Board in 2012

Initial Focus

Our Experience: the Diary of Two Administrators

Planning the Course Schedule

Room Capacity and Utilization

Equitable Instructor Load

Results: the Good, the Bad, and the Never to be Mentioned

Faculty members can focus on designing and delivering engaging learning experiences rather than adjusting plans because of unanticipated changes in schedules, room assignments, or workload.
