DOC10 Film Festival 2018
WERE YOU THERE?!
"In just three years, Chicago’s DOC10 film festival has become a destination for the year’s best documentaries as they make their way through the festival circuit. Just one weekend each April, the festival, presented by the Chicago Media Project, screens ten films making their Chicago premieres. Often, these films—selected with care by festival programmer Anthony Kaufman—go on to be some of the most talked about non-fiction filmmaking of the year."
We had some very special filmmaking guests stop by...
WON'T YOU BE MY NEIGHBOR Producer Caryn Capotosto
LOVE MEANS ZERO director Jason Kohn
Member of the NYPD 12 and activist subject of CRIME AND PUNISHMENT Sgt. Edwin Raymond
ON HER SHOULDERS director Alexandria Bombach
306 HOLLYWOOD director Jonathan Bogarin
RBG directors Betsy West and Julie Cohen
THE OTHER SIDE OF EVERYTHING director Mila Turajlic and subject Srbijanka Turajlic
MINDING THE GAP producer Diane Quon and director Bing Liu
THE KING director Eugene Jarecki
And Elvis.
VR-RV
This year, we were excited to unveil the newest facet of DOC10, our VR – RV, focused on interactive media, documentary storytelling and technology. Wholly unique to Chicago, the airstream opened on Friday evening, April 6th, celebrating our VR artists, and continued alongside the festival all weekend.
The VR–RV hosted two new media innovators who presented experiences at the intersection of documentary and emerging technologies to transform our awareness of social issues.
Congo: Empowered by Light by StoryUp
Sun Ladies by Maria Bello, Celine Tricart, and Christian Stephen
Thank you to all who helped make this year's festival a success! With an exciting line-up of films, very special guests, a cadre of hard-working partners and a record turn-out, it was really an incredible 4 days.

Check out this IndieWire article written by DOC10 Film Curator, Anthony Kaufman, about why Netflix and Amazon Aren’t Buying Documentaries, But the Non-Fiction Market Is Booming Anyway
The digital disruptors aren't buying documentaries the way they were a year ago, but that doesn't mean the marketplace has gone stagnant.

THE MIXTAPE: CHICAGO
THE MIXTAPE: CHICAGO is an anthology documentary series that digs deep into the stories of marginalized young people in Chicago who are utilizing transformational after-school arts programs to find their voices and express and empower themselves. These safe havens provide support, space, and a multidisciplinary approach to arts education to tackle issues such as gang violence, school closure, and gentrification. They have also contributed to the rise of a generation of artists and activists, including Chance the Rapper. Through this series, we meet the individuals behind some of the most impactful grassroots movements happening in Chicago, and the future leaders who are poised to change the cultural landscape of Chi-Town.
