Happy New Year

Happy New Year Baker family! I hope that all of you enjoyed the winter break and look forward to the new year ahead. As we begin 2021, there is a sense of excitement and opportunity about the potential return to in-person instruction. We cannot talk about the new year without discussing the challenges in-front of us as we deal with the impact of COVID-19 and the images our students witnessed last week at the capital.

As parents, and educators, we have an opportunity to support our students by reinforcing a sense of a positive school community. The strength of our Baker Family comes from the value that we have for every member of our community. I am confident that we will overcome our challenges together and know that brighter days are ahead!

PowerSchool Parent Selection for Learning Preference

Last week, Kerry Birmingham shared information about the district's tentative plan to resume our hybrid model for secondary students Monday, January 25th. If you have not made your selection already, please carefully consider whether you would like your student to return to our hybrid model or continue all-virtual. Selections can be made in the PowerSchool Parent Portal. The portal will close on Tuesday at 5:00 pm. Please note that parents not making a selection by that time will default to the all-virtual option.

Parent Learning Selection Instructions

Log into the Parent Portal in PowerSchool using a web browser (the selection form, like all forms, is not available on the mobile app.) You can use the web browser on a desktop, laptop or your phone, but you will not see the selection form in the app. If you do not have a Parent Portal Account for PowerSchool, please email pssupport@troy.k12.mi.us for assistance.

Click on the "Forms" icon on the left side, then select "Learning Preference Commitment - January, 2021."

Make your selection by answering the questions after clicking on that form. We ask that you read the introductory portion carefully, as it contains important information about your choice (and the potential of additional days of in-seat instruction at the secondary level.)

You must make a selection for each of your students (additional students can be found by clicking on the blue bar at the top of your Parent Portal window. Click on your next student’s name and follow the same process.)

One Troy Food Drive

One of the greatest struggles in our world today, and in our city presently, is food insecurity. As families struggle to make ends meet, hundreds of students join our classes each day without having had enough to eat.

The Tina Houser Bridge the Gap Food Pantry at Morse Elementary has a mission to feed those in our learning community. In regular times, they provide food to about a hundred families in Troy each week, but more recently, they have been supplementing food for hundreds of families. The OneTroy community can come together over two days to support the program. On Wednesday, January 13th, and Thursday, January 14th, community members will be invited to drop off donations at Morse Elementary school.

Wednesday, January 13th (Non-Contact Donation Day)

Community members will be invited to drop off donations at Morse Elementary school. Wednesday will be a non-contact donation day where food can be left outside the main entrance.

Thursday, January 14th (Drive Thru 4 - 7pm)

The community will host a reverse food bank where community members can simply open their trunks, and volunteers will unload donations. Please see the flier below for more information and the food that is needed.

Yearbook Order Information

Hello Baker Families,

Mrs. Traver here. Because of this crazy COVID-19 year, we are in dire need of your help in getting photos for the yearbook. Normally, students would be going around taking photos, but that can obviously not happen this year, so we need to find another way.

You can help by sending photos. We’d like to see them and include them in our yearbook. It can be anything from this year. For example something you did over the summer, hanging with friends, life at home, a great selfie, what you did on break… Whatever! Help us get as many photos as possible to create a terrific book everyone will want to have.

You can submit them to the link below

Video Submission Instructions

  • To select multiple images, press your CTRL (or CMD key) while making your image selections.
  • To ensure high quality printing in the yearbook, please provide only high-resolution images. Images can be uploaded in JPEG, TIFF, or PNG file format.

I Can’t wait to see your photos, and I want to thank you so much for helping us out. You are so appreciated!

Have a great day,

Mrs. Traver, Yearbook Advisor
