Kamiak Parent Bulletin June 1st - June 5th

Yearbook Information:

Our yearbook team did an amazing job completing the yearbook and submitted it for publication. The pandemic caused delays first in printing, but ultimately in shipping. Therefore, the yearbooks are scheduled to arrive in August. At this time, we are not doing refunds as the yearbooks are already paid for, printed, and planned to be shipped. Once we receive a definitive arrival date, we will develop a distribution plan, which will likely look nearly identical to our cap/gown distribution day: distribution by waves, with a make-up session time. Students will show their ID, sign for their book, and we will the pass the yearbook through the window. In the event we can do August Business Days (and we have the books), we may distribute on those days as well. Thank you, like everything else, for your patience!

Graduation update:

update: 5/26/20

Graduates! As you have heard, or read, our plans to have you filmed as you walk across the stage as your name is read was not approved by Snohomish County Health and State officials. It is currently unknown when Snohomish County will move into Phase 2. Per Snohomish County Health guidelines, the only way for us to create our virtual graduation video is for students to submit a photo of themselves in their cap, gown, stole, and honor cords (if applicable).

Please adhere to the following photo guidelines so that we create a respectful and positive experience for all graduates and their families:

  • Remember that you are representing Kamiak High School and Mukilteo School District.
  • Smile big!
  • Be professional.
  • No cap decorations.
  • No leis, honor cords from other schools, or stoles from other schools/military enlistment.
  • No hand gestures or facial gestures.

The DUE DATE for photo submission is Tuesday, 2 June at 5:00PM. Please submit a digital photo (regular size) to Life & Light by clicking here.

If circumstances will prevent you from submitting a photo, please contact Dr. Kimberly Jensen at jensenkj@mukilteo.wednet.edu, no later than Friday, 29 May at 3:00 PM.

“Drive-by” graduation and photo opportunity:

We are still waiting approval for our “Drive-by” graduation plan tentatively scheduled for Friday, 19 June. In the event that this plan is approved, it will run very similar to Cap/Gown Distribution Day. The current plan is to assign graduates wave times based on last name; we will queue cars to distribute the graduate’s diploma and a cover; we will read the graduates name aloud; and will take a professional photo of each graduate. For this event, students are welcome to decorate their caps (please keep it “clean” and respectful), wear leis, and wear running start or military stoles/honor cords. Once we have approval for this event, we will send out detailed information about wave assignments and make-up sessions. Our hope is to provide you a very memorable and celebratory event—a much deserved one!

As always, your patience is greatly appreciated.

virtual graduation guidelines:

Please review this document from our Superintendent, Dr. Alison Brynelson, regarding virtual graduation.

QMLATIV:

Qmlativ is our system that provides parents with their student's information such as grades, attendance, and other data. You can login to the Family Access portal to check on your student's information.

Need help accessing your Family Access Portal? Please refer to these instructions.

flyers HAVE GONE digital:

Say goodbye to crumpled flyers at the bottom of student backpacks that surface after an opportunity has passed. We have implemented an electronic flyer distribution system, PEACHJAR. Families will get flyers in their email inbox instead. Schools and outside organizations will have a more accessible, environmentally friendly and interactive way of sharing flyers and newsletters. Primary guardians with an email address on file at their child’s school will automatically begin receiving flyers by email. If a family member would like to also receive them, they can subscribe on the school website.

Blackboard Connect Portal:

The school district uses a system called Blackboard Connect to send important messages to parents via telephone, text, and email. If you would like to change to the way you receive messages, login to your Blackboard Connect Portal and edit your contact information.

Change in School Closure or Delay Notification:

This year, you will receive a phone message and email from the district if we close or delay school. This helps ensure we reach everyone, including those without an email address on file, before students stand outside at a bus stop, and before parents leave for work. If you added a text message number in the Blackboard portal, you will also receive a text message. As usual, it will also be posted on the district website and posted through FlashAlert, which also feeds into mainstream local news feeds.

Mukilteo School District complies with federal and state rules and regulations and does not discriminate in any programs or activities on the basis of sex, race, creed, religion, color, national origin, age, veteran or military status, sexual orientation, gender expression or identity, disability, or the use of a trained dog guide or service animal and provides equal access to the Boy Scouts and other designated youth groups. The following individuals have been designated to handle questions or complaints of alleged discrimination: Title IX Officer - Bruce Hobert (425-356-1319), Section 504 Coordinator – Lisa Pitsch (425-356-1277), and the ADA/Access Coordinator – Karen Mooseker (425-356-1330), all located at 9401 Sharon Drive in Everett, WA 98204. I came up with the idea of floating the book with help of my friend. I took two shots one without the book and one with the book being held up from my friend. Photoshopped his arm out of the shot later in post and this was the outcome." • Philip Strong - "untitled image" • Paweł Czerwiński - "One of the display units at the Discovery Center of the Centennial Hall."
