January is Board Appreciation Month! If you have the opportunity to run into one of these amazing people below, please tell them THANK YOU for serving on our Board of Education. These folks truly believe in the plight of public education and dedicate their time to help us achieve our vision!

Pictured above are members of the SSPS Board of Education: Supt. Sherry Durkee, Mr. Mike Mullins, Ms. Jackie Wagnon, Ms. Whitney Wagers, Mr. Bo Naugle, and Mr. Rusty Gunn.

Did you know a classroom can "ADOPT A COW?" Neither did I! However, Ms. Sheri Davis, second grade teacher at Limestone Technology Academy, discovered this little known fact! Ms. Davis is pictured below showing off their class cow REJOICE. The students are learning all about the dairy farming process and they even get to take virtual tours of the farm!!!

Meet Rejoice!
I caught Ms. Kelli Stephenson's 3rd grade class as they get ready for a day of learning!

The Tulsa Health Department, in conjunction with the Oklahoma Caring Van, delivered the first round of COVID-19 vaccines to some of our staff Monday and Tuesday this week. Those who are 65 and older OR serve as a health aide at the sites were able to access the first round of vaccines in our schools! Much Thanks to the Caring Van and their work. Sixty Sandites were able to access the first dose of the vaccine this week!

Pictured above are Marilyn Clark, a faithful Sandite substitute, and Susan Wilkerson, who handles sick children at ECEC.
Garfield and Northwoods competed in an ARCHERY event today at Garfield STEAM Academy.

Check out the newly renovated weight room at Memorial Stadium for our CPHS athletes! This renovation was possible by some very generous donors and the visioning of our Athletic Director Rod Sitton and Coach Bobby Klinck! The Sandites have just raised the bar!!

Meet Mr. Coy Caviness and Miss Gracie Elliot. Gracie surprised Mr. Caviness with a life size cut out of HIMSELF this Christmas season. Even the cut out is donning a mask! Thank you Mr. Caviness for inspiring students on a daily basis and modeling what it means to INSPIRE HEARTS!

Mr. Caviness, Ms. Horn and Ms. Bush, with the help of their LAFS classes at CBMS conducted the Shop with a Cop program again this year. This allows children, who may not get to otherwise, shop for a special gift for Christmas. The team raised a total of $2,500 with Brooklyn Shope raising $200, Shae Edelman raising $125, Gavin Strout raising $500, Ashley Prince raising $100, and Jack Winchester (who was unavailable for the photo below) raising $350! Great job Sandites!

Below is a photo of what will soon be the new Angus Valley gymnasium and storm shelter. The project is well underway and is scheduled to be complete in June, 2021!

As we end the 2nd week of the 2nd semester, I cannot help but reflect on all we have accomplished this school year. We, together, have done what many thought we could not do. I am proud of your concentrated efforts for the sake our children. Enjoy the 3 day weekend ahead of you. It is much deserved! #BESandite ~Sherry
