Gleaners Food Bank Information

Gleaners Food bank is a Metro Detroit based charity that has been feeding people with hunger. For more than 40 years they have been doing this. Gleaners helps thousand of people each day fighting hunger. Gleaners gives out an average of 79,000 meals a day. They also give out food to more than 535 partner soup kitchens, shelters, and pantries in southeast Michigan.

Gene Gonya was a very religious person and believed in community service and wanted to help people out. This is why Gene came up with Gleaners food bank. Gene founded this organization in 1977 making it one of the first food banks in the United States.

Anybody can help this cause by donating or volunteering. Gleaners collects either money donations or food donations. They collect it from grocery stores, local gardens, and food drives. If you donate money it will go to buying food for hungry people. If you don't want to donate you could also volunteer to help distribute the food. There are many places to help.

So please help these children who are not as fortunate as you, any donation can make a big difference. Thank you.
