Mrs. Pfeiffer's fabulous news! January 20, 2017

Reading

This week the students used Venn Diagrams to compare and contrast two character from Colonial Voices, and then turned it into a compare and contrasting paragraph. We will continue to do more writing in this reading unit. We also started, George vs. George, this week. This informational book will take us through the Revolutionary War from both King George and George Washington's perspective.

Math

This week we have continued working through Unit 5. This week we subtracted both fractions and mixed numbers. We even started learning how to take the whole fraction from the whole number to subtract when the numerator on top is smaller. This is a difficult skill and we will continue to work on it next week as well.

Science

This week the students had a visit from Mrs. Habeeb. She came to talk to them about the symbols of Illinois. They were very excited to learn that popcorn is our state snack!! Then, the students each made a necklace with different items to represent each of the symbols. It was a very neat activity!!
