Democracy in Canada was established in 1867. Democracy is the right to choose who runs the country. In Canada's case we vote for the prime minister. In Canada, we could vote for an individual member, a political party, or in some cases both. When you elect an individual, they are given a seat at the house of commons which is located in Ottawa, Ontario. The leader of the party with the most seats is elected to be prime minister. The house of commons plays an important role because that is where issues get debated and it ensure the government is held accountable for their actions. Democracy is there so people have the right to choose for themselves who runs their country and who does not.
