RE/MAX Hot Air Balloon Assembly

The RE/MAX hot air balloon assembly has become an annual fun, fact-filled and engaging lesson, and a highly memorable live demonstration of air density, convection currents, and principles of hot air balloon flight. The RE/MAX Hot Air Balloon Team and Baker have an ongoing partnership where they provide a live demonstration that is presented in one of two ways: an outdoor balloon inflation with indoor as a windy-day backup, or weather-proof and equally thrilling indoor option. Due to the windy conditions this year our students experienced an indoor hybrid option with an outdoor demonstration.

The RE/MAX Team was able to engage in an outdoor demonstration of the basket, burner, fuel system and instruments with a question and answer period. Their indoor presentation covered the history of ballooning, the progression to modern hot air ballooning, the science of ballooning and the building and designing of balloons. We appreciate the RE/MAX Team coming to Baker and Mrs. Kemp's leadership in organizing this special event that includes a real world application of science opportunity for our students. This event serves as a springboard to the student's development of their own hot air ballon that they will launch using a propane burner.

Baker Book Club

Here is a snapshot of our reading this year! We recommend you add these titles (and more) to your summer reading list!

Baker Book Club had another successful year! Not only did we read, discuss and share recommendations with one another, we also contributed to March is Reading Month by organizing our Book Drive and Need a Book, Take a Book event. In addition, we donated all money raised during our bake sale to the book mural fundraiser. We hope to kick-off next school year with another bake sale to raise money for books. In case you’d like to help us meet our goal, please consider donating to our Donors Choose project:

8th Grade Promotion Ceremony

The 8th Grade Promotion Ceremony is quickly approaching. The ceremony is scheduled for Tuesday, June 11th from 9:30 am to 11 am in the Baker Gymnasium. The doors will open for parents at 9 am. Please allow additional time to find parking due to the construction at the Troy Center for Transition.

Please reference the aerial image of our campus to confirm the assigned parent parking areas. These areas are shaded in red. Safe-Ed security personnel will be present on the North and South sides of campus to assist parents with parking. The Troy police department will also be present on campus to assist with traffic and ensure that critical areas are not blocked.

We are looking forward to celebrating this milestone with you. Please note that the school day ends at 11:54 am. 8thgrade students are able to leave with parents prior to the end of the school day. We are encouraging parents and family members to depart immediately after the ceremony. Our commuting parents and busses will be coming on to campus at approximately 11:30 am adding to the traffic congestion. Thank you for your assistance in the successful management of this special event.

Save the Date: 8th Grade Party June 12th from 12pm to 2pm

8th Grade Party PTO Donations Needed!

Well it’s hard to believe our kids are getting ready to graduate 8th grade. Their journey on to High School is already being talked about with much anticipation. But before that all begins, we are going to celebrate our Graduates!! This year the party will take place on June 12th from 12pm to 2pm following the half day dismissal. We are planning a Kick off to Summer Beach Party!! The kids will enjoy games, food, music and a photo booth as they get together with their class to celebrate graduating Baker Middle School.

Wednesday, June 12, the kids will have a half day. All 8th graders will stay at school from 12-2pm for the 8th Grade Party. Lunch will be provided. We are asking for a $10 donation from each student to offset the cost of the party.

Please send your cash money in an envelope clearly marked your child’s name and 8th Grade Party to school no later than March 28th. **Please let us know, included in the envelope, if there are any dietary considerations for your child and your contact information so we can reach out to you. There will be a basket in the office for the envelopes.

This is sure to be a fun party as our graduating 8th graders enjoy their last days at Baker. More information will be coming out regarding donations needed, opportunities to volunteer both in planning and the day of the event, and about the activities being planned. Congratulations Graduating 8th Graders!!! We can’t wait to kick off the summer with a Beach Party!!!
