Carlien Bakker human resources manager

Muses

At JapanTKY, we are not only inspired by the latest fashion trends and city trips. We also take inspiration from the people who wear our clothes. Ultimately, we design our clothes for them. Therefore, we would like you to meet some of our muses.

Carlien graduated as an urban planner at Radboud University in Nijmegen. After starting out as a consultant in the sustainable energy sector, she increasingly became an all-around project leader/organiser with a focus on people and the organisation. Now she has been working for the province of Gelderland for 17 years in various roles.

“In all the roles I have had at the province in recent years, I have discovered that I have a talent for guiding and leading people, to coach them and to motivate them to do beautiful things in terms of content. At the moment I am doing this as a human resources manager, but that could just as easily have been any other field. For example, before that, I was a manager in the IT department.”

“I believe it's important to take care of yourself and your own 'happiness' as best you can.”

Carlien and her partner Rob live in Arnhem together with their children Vester (18), Kaat (16), Olaf (13) and Finn (9). "I have chronic migraines, which are frustrating and have made my life a lot narrower in recent years. Partying at a festival is no longer an option for me, but there are plenty of things that I can still do. I can thoroughly enjoy my family and friends and pamper myself with beautiful clothes or jewellery. For me, that is really part and parcel of taking good care of myself.”

“I never put clothes on just like that. It is a sort of ritual to pay attention to myself.”

"I love 'dressing up,' for work, a party, or just for Saturday. I never put on anything just like that. It is a kind of ritual to pay attention to myself. I like many different styles and I think it is especially important that clothes fit comfortably. This is especially true of workwear because after all, you have to work in it all day. I am thankful for discovering JapanTKY clothing. The fabrics are super comfortable, wrinkles are almost non-existent and a blazer can be washed at home instead of having to be dry-cleaned, perfect!”

"My source of inspiration is not so much someone or something, but rather nothingness. I can very well recharge on my own for a few days. No one around me now and then is the ultimate delight for me!

And if I had to name a person, I would choose someone who has something to do with clothing/styling, namely Trinny Woodall. I'm not really active on social media, but I do follow her Instagram account. Trinny is best known as the presenter of What Not to Wear and Trinny and Susannah Undress. Today she presents herself as a beauty, styling and shopping guide on social media. She is energetic, very self-confident, optimistic and happy and yet also in her early 50s. That makes me happy.”
