Benefits and uses of Genetic Testing

Genetic tests should become more common practice among physicians because the medical and scientific benefits outweigh the supposed ethical issues.

"Scientists are able to remove an affected gene in order to decrease the chances of being diagnosed with a genetic disease"
"A genetic approach to medicine allows doctors to give more precise and personalized medication and treatment"
The cost of genetic testing is high because of all the expensive equipment and technology it uses, however new advancements are making the price more affordable.
New technology has been created that allows parents to edit or change the genetic makeup of their child. Characteristics like gender, appearance, intelligence, disease aptitude, and personality can all be changed using preimplantation genetic diagnosis (Hanson). The ability to actually create the perfect child is believed to create a God complex, and a social stigma is created that there is something wrong with being born genetically different (Otto, 1997).
"There are so many benefits that come from genetic tests, such as early diagnosis and treatment, longer lifespan, and reduced risk of genetic disease for future generations that should not be denied to people."
Using in-vitro fertilization and preimplantation genetic diagnosis allows couples who were previously not able to conceive get pregnant and create their own family.
New aspects and applications of information from the human genome are being discovered everyday, and the possibilities of what can be done with it are endless.
