Planning Your Session
Are you dreading planning your session? Are you dreading trying to get all those kiddos to smile?
Surprise! Your session is going to be fun and relaxing!!
As a mother who has survived two newborns believe me when I say, I know how you feel! It’s easy to get overwhelmed when you think about the planning of what to wear as a new (or seasoned) mom, getting the house photo ready, and keeping older siblings happy long enough to at least look happy in the photos. It’s a good thing for you that bringing it all together is what I'm best at!
Here are a few tips of things to be thinking about as we begin to plan your session. Remember that I’m here with you and for you from the moment you book your session, so be sure to relax and let things flow! I am super laid back and patient, so know that we will be sure to take breaks whenever your little bundle needs to eat or have their diaper changed. While I typically plan to be in your home for 2-3 hours, we are on your baby's schedule, and nothing is more important than keeping your baby comfortable and calm. I want to assure you that you can breathe easy throughout our time together, and focus on celebrating your little one!
-I'm passionate about capturing your growing family being a family and making all of the sweet and fun memories that you can while I'm there! I ask that you think about what memories you want to have in your photographs. Is it your little baby's tiny fingers and toes? Or maybe the they snuggle into your neck as you take in that newborn baby smell right after giving them a bath? What about your older child holding or laying down next your newborn and giving sweet kisses? A session with me is all about capturing real life memories and moments. I want you to think about what activity you could do with your baby or their older sibling that will help bring out the uniqueness of your family for me to document for you during this special time in all of your lives.
-If you're at all concerned about any of your children not cooperating, trust me when I say that I'm there to relieve the burden, not add to it. I'm very good at getting children to play and relax. My sessions are not about them looking at the camera and smiling, although 99.9% of the time they end up doing just that without any direction from me. I try to make it as fun as possible for any older siblings, and make them feel just as special and included as the newest addition to the family. As far as your precious baby goes, he or she will be in your arms anytime they want to be close to Momma. I do not pose newborns or place them in baskets or bowls. The parent-child connection is so much more important to me to capture, as is the comfort and safety of your child. If your baby is most comfortable in their swing, rock 'n play, bassinet, or Mommy and Daddy's arms then that's where they will be. Just like I'm not there to stress you out, I'm committed to doing the same for your entire family.
-Lastly, and quite honestly least importantly, when it comes to the cleanliness of your home, just remember that there are plenty of ways to shoot around any clutter or eye sores, and to move any unwanted items out of the frame. Most importantly, in regards to this topic, remember that I'm not there to capture your home, but rather the moments that you have in it, so please don't stress about it. You have something, or rather someone, way more important (and adorable) to focus your attention on.
