Olive Shoot newborn Welcome guide

If you’re reading this that means you’re either thinking about hiring Olive Shoot to capture your family’s memories or you’ve already booked your Olive Shoot session.

Either way, I'm excited!!

Hi!! I'm Nikki :)

The Olive Shoot Experience

Let's start with a simple question. How many times have you taken a photo with your phone or camera, and never did anything with the photos? Are you like me and you forget to go back and print them out? That is one thing that Olive Shoot strives to make sure doesn’t happen with the photos from our sessions together!

Olive Shoot is a full service boutique photography business. My goal is to make sure you not only have an amazing session that leaves you with fun memories but also to provide you with heirloom quality prints and products that will last a lifetime.

No more digital negatives hidden away in drawers for no one to see. About two weeks after your session you’ll have your reveal night where you’ll get to see all of your images for the first time. That night we’ll work to create amazing products to showcase your entire session. From wall art to albums-Olive Shoot has a full range of products to meet all of your needs!

I’m guessing that right now you’re saying “But I want the digital negatives!” Don’t worry I completely understand where you’re coming from. I value digital negatives as much as you do (otherwise I wouldn’t have a stack of hard drives filled with precious family memories!). Olive Shoot offers collections that include digital files along with the quality products for your family to enjoy. You’ll get the best of both worlds AND get them for a lower price when they’re combined in one of three of my carefully put together collections. Doesn’t get much better than that!

So now it’s time to grab a cup of coffee (or wine) and scroll through these pages. Learn how, together, we’ll create an unforgettable experience of a lifetime!

I could not have asked for a better experience! She was incredibly patient and took her time with every shot. You could see the care and pride she takes in every picture she takes. She was great with our daughter and made sure to keep her comfortable or pause if we needed for her to feed. She truly made it an amazing experience and the pictures came out beautifully. -Alicia K.

Planning Your Session

Are you dreading planning your session? Are you dreading trying to get all those kiddos to smile?

Surprise! Your session is going to be fun and relaxing!!

As a mother who has survived two newborns believe me when I say, I know how you feel! It’s easy to get overwhelmed when you think about the planning of what to wear as a new (or seasoned) mom, getting the house photo ready, and keeping older siblings happy long enough to at least look happy in the photos. It’s a good thing for you that bringing it all together is what I'm best at!

Here are a few tips of things to be thinking about as we begin to plan your session. Remember that I’m here with you and for you from the moment you book your session, so be sure to relax and let things flow! I am super laid back and patient, so know that we will be sure to take breaks whenever your little bundle needs to eat or have their diaper changed. While I typically plan to be in your home for 2-3 hours, we are on your baby's schedule, and nothing is more important than keeping your baby comfortable and calm. I want to assure you that you can breathe easy throughout our time together, and focus on celebrating your little one!

-I'm passionate about capturing your growing family being a family and making all of the sweet and fun memories that you can while I'm there! I ask that you think about what memories you want to have in your photographs. Is it your little baby's tiny fingers and toes? Or maybe the they snuggle into your neck as you take in that newborn baby smell right after giving them a bath? What about your older child holding or laying down next your newborn and giving sweet kisses? A session with me is all about capturing real life memories and moments. I want you to think about what activity you could do with your baby or their older sibling that will help bring out the uniqueness of your family for me to document for you during this special time in all of your lives.

-If you're at all concerned about any of your children not cooperating, trust me when I say that I'm there to relieve the burden, not add to it. I'm very good at getting children to play and relax. My sessions are not about them looking at the camera and smiling, although 99.9% of the time they end up doing just that without any direction from me. I try to make it as fun as possible for any older siblings, and make them feel just as special and included as the newest addition to the family. As far as your precious baby goes, he or she will be in your arms anytime they want to be close to Momma. I do not pose newborns or place them in baskets or bowls. The parent-child connection is so much more important to me to capture, as is the comfort and safety of your child. If your baby is most comfortable in their swing, rock 'n play, bassinet, or Mommy and Daddy's arms then that's where they will be. Just like I'm not there to stress you out, I'm committed to doing the same for your entire family.

-Lastly, and quite honestly least importantly, when it comes to the cleanliness of your home, just remember that there are plenty of ways to shoot around any clutter or eye sores, and to move any unwanted items out of the frame. Most importantly, in regards to this topic, remember that I'm not there to capture your home, but rather the moments that you have in it, so please don't stress about it. You have something, or rather someone, way more important (and adorable) to focus your attention on.

What to Wear - The Do's and Don'ts

Deciding what to wear for your session can seem like a huge chore. Following these simple tips will help you chose the perfect outfits for your upcoming session with ease! Don’t forget to check your closet first!

DO- Be comfortable. You're going to move around some, especially if you have small children, as I'm sure you well know. So it's important to wear something that you're able to lounge in for those sweet snuggle shots, or even get down on the floor with your children (c-section momma's no need to worry. I've been there and will completely cater to your physical state).

DON’T- Match. Leave the jeans and white t-shirts in the closet and instead choose a color scheme and coordinate.

DO- Wear something that you feel good about yourself in. If you have areas that you're self conscious about, then wear something that you know will help draw the attention away from that feature. One example would be, if you're not a fan of how your arms look, then wear something that you feel helps slim them down. It's not always easy getting used to your new body after having your beautiful child, so choose something that you're happy to see yourself in. If you have a favorite color that you like to wear, then do that and plan everyone else's outfits (and newborn swaddles) around you.

DON’T- Be afraid of patterns. Plaids, polkadot, florals and stripes can be overwhelming when all paired together but mixing in a few patterns here and there are another great way to add some interest to your photo session.

DO- Pay attention to your shoes. Shoes matter! Try to stick with neutral shoes for the whole family, or better yet go barefoot.

DON’T- Wear logos. As much as shoes can be an eye sore so can a big logo across a t-shirt. Try to stear clear of sports or brand logos or sayings across the front of your shirt. Again, this takes the attention away from the family and brings the eye right to the t-shirt. Cute newborn onesies are the exception to this rule!

DO- Have fun with it! The last thing I want you to do, Momma, is stress yourself out about what the family is going to wear. I can always help with last minute outfit ideas, and if we get pictures of you dressing your baby after I arrive, then I call that a win!

DON’T- Over think it! You want your family to look like your family so don’t worry too much about the outfits. Be sure to have fun with it!

After the Session

You’ve already had a wonderful time at your session and now things are about to get even better! Two weeks after your session we’ll have your reveal night (We’ll schedule this at the same time we schedule your session to make sure you see your images as soon as possible!). On your reveal night you’ll see all of your images for the first time. It’s definitely something to get excited about!

That night I’ll come to your home (that’s right no babysitter and you can even stay in your jammies if you want!) and show you a custom slideshow with your images.

After you’ve experienced the slideshow you’ll have some time to go through all of your images and take a look at a few product samples. Seeing everything in person will really give you a sense of what products are most important to you. My favorites are canvases and albums!

You’ll have plenty of time to ask any questions, to hold up image sizes to different walls in your own home to see what size will work best as well as time to pick out your favorites.

The collections on the following page have been put together to give you the absolute best quality produtct for the best value. Those collections are available on reveal night only. No need to worry if the products in the offered collections don’t fit you’re needs, all products are available a la carte as well and are 20% off on reveal night!

The goal of the reveal night is to finalize your order so we can get your prints and products to you as soon as possible. To help make this stress free it’s a great idea to take a look through all of the different products and colletions so you can go into it with an idea of what might work best for you. Once you’ve seen your images that may change but it’s always good to have an idea when we get started!

When all the fun of the reveal night is over, you’ll have a short wait before you’ll have those images in your hands! Digital files purchased will be made available within 24 hours and you can expect to have your prints and products in hand within 2-4 weeks. When everything is in we’ll schedule a time that I can hand deliver everything to make sure it gets to you safely!

So that sums it up. It will be my absolute joy and pleasure to work with you, and to get to be apart of capturing such a special time in your family's life! If you've already scheduled your session, then I look forward to seeing you soon, and meeting your precious family!! Please don't hesitate to reach out to me if you need any guidance along the way.
