The Ryerson Rams men’s soccer team took to Downsview Park on a cold evening to deliver another decisive victory over the Trent Excalibur. The teams, having already met in a 5-0 Rams win the previous week, would face a similar matchup with Ryerson claiming a 4-0 victory.

Abdallah El-Chanti (Toronto, Ont.) opened the scoring for Ryerson early, finding the back of the net in the fourth minute. From there, it would be a back and forth battle of the two teams' respective defences. In the 20th minute, Ryerson’s lead would increase to 2-0 off of a goal by Nick Lambis (Pickering, Ont.). Before sending the game into halftime, El-Chanti extended the Rams lead to 3-0 late in the first half to give Ryerson a comfortable margin.

A defence-heavy second half saw the Excalibur take a few stabs at the scoreboard, but ultimately the Rams defence continued to break up plays with goalkeeper Praveen Ahilan only facing two shots. In injury time, Alex Meczarski (Richmond Hill, Ont.) would score off of a scrum in front of the net to give Ryerson the 4-0 victory as well as their third consecutive game scoring in injury time.

“It’s always tricky, especially when there’s a quick turnaround,” head coach Filip Prostran said of their second meeting with Trent in as many weeks. After some aggressive play the previous evening against the UOIT Ridgebacks, Prostran is happy with the role that the veteran Rams players took to keep the young players levelheaded and prepared to play.

“We did a good job of mixing some of the younger players and some of the older guys to calm them down and act like coaches on the field,” said Prostran.
