Teacher Learning Academy 3:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Note: Topics and their treatment in this session may be geared toward secondary teachers. Please make note of session locations.

  • Connecting Inquiry Across All Text ESC Boardroom D - It turns out that if you leave students alone in a classroom with multiple copies of a text or even several different good books, they will actually form small book-discussion groups spontaneously. It just makes sense to pick up a book or article with a few friends, read, and discuss it. In this session, come and explore how to connect inquiry across all text structures not just with novels, but other shorter, chunks of text, including nonfiction across the curriculum. Participants will leave with tools to get kids actively talking about text of any kind.
  • Individualizing Feedback to Maximize Improvement ESC Room 207 - 160+ Students? No problem! Use writing as a tool to promote thinking and learning. Come to learn more about ways to manage 1 on 1 conferences with students in all content areas and be able to know more about each student in order to push their thinking further.
  • Executive Functioning Skills ESC Boardroom C - Students not turning in assignments? Unorganized and unprepared? We've got you covered! Come find out about the processes of planning, prioritizing, and executing tasks and leave with some strategies to help your students function like an executive!
  • Educational Neuroscience ESC Board Room A and B - Staff will discover how brain science relates to discipline and behavioral concerns and will learn mindfulness activities for increased student engagement.
