LaAmistad at Peachtree April 13, 2017

Dear Friends,

It's been a sensational week of learning. The children were happy to be back and you were all in your element of supporting and guiding instruction.

Some of our students have one more week of testing. Remind and encourage them to recall and use the testing strategies we've worked on during the year here at LaAmistad.

Excellent, Engaging Egg Hunt SUCCESS!

Thank You, Thank You, Thank You for making our spring egg hunt a great SUCCESS!

The joy, laughter and pure excitement was shared by everyone.

We loved seeing the children having to earn their treats to fill their eggs by participating and collaborating in the academic review challenge questions.

Our Teen Center even got in on the action as they worked together to complete obstacle courses and problem solve as a team to earn delicious chocolate and sweet treats.

This was a great way to engage and make learning fun. We could not have done it without YOU!

A Note from Carla Phillips-Volunteer Coordinator

If you have volunteered with us at least three times and have not received a name tag please let her know next week by signing the "I Need A Name Tag" form at the volunteer sign in table.

Celebrate Earth Day with S.T.E.A.M

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

On Thursday we have some super exciting S.T.E.A.M project challenges planned.

You can help us celebrate Earth day by donating the following materials, so that we can recycle and reuse them on S.T.E.A.M day.

  • Eye or medicine droppers
  • VOSS glass water bottles with tops ( lava lamps)
  • Empty paper towel rolls

If you have any of these recyclables feel free to bring them in. We will have a container for them on the volunteer sign up table.

Disney On Ice Opportunity

Tuesday, April 18th

We are in need of two volunteers to help chaperone a group of children for a special Disney On Ice S.T.E.A.M. event on Tuesday.

Our students will build racecars from cardboard boxes. They will then use their feet to power their car "pistons" as they race around the Disney track.

Students will be bused from the gym at 3:15 to the Infinite Energy Arena in Duluth. They will be returning to campus by 6:45.

A majority of our 2nd and 3rd grade students will be attending the event. (so those classes will be smaller in numbers)

If you are able to help please let me know via email for more information before Monday, April 17,2017.

Blue Heron Date Change

If you volunteer with our first grade class on Tuesdays, please note that the date for next week has been CHANGED to Thursday, April 20th, due to a bus scheduling conflict.

Please plan to meet the children at Blue Heron on Roswell Road.

The address is 4055 Roswell Rd NE, Atlanta, Ga 30342

Skill of the Week

Break Big Assignments into Smaller Parts

How to incorporate the study skill: Use good time management by not procrastinating on large projects. Work on small parts of a large assignment every night until it is finished.

Trustworthiness is being worthy of trust. People can count on you to do your best, to keep your word and to follow through on your commitments.

Affirmation: "I am trustworthy. I keep my promises. I keep my word. I am worthy of the trust others place in me."

Be the reason someone smiles today.

Have a Blessed and Happy Weekend
