Springfield is located in the heart of Illinois. Among the better neighborhoods in Springfield are the Twin Lakes,Oak Ridge,Lincoln Park, Hawthorn Place, and Enos Park.Springfield occupies approximately 60.3 square miles, according to the US Census Bureau.

The first recorded settler to build a permanent home in Springfield area was a guy names John Kelly.Springfield was chosen to be the state capital in 1837. Springfield was settled around 1819.

What tourists visit

Some tourists like to visit the Henson Robinson zoo. Some might like to visit Lincolns new Salem State Park.Some also may like to visit the state capital building.

Springfield goes through four different seasons.Temperatures range from 70 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit.In weather months Springfield ranges from 30 to 40 degrees Fahrenheit.

Abraham Lincoln

Abraham Lincolns body is entombed in the Oak Ridge cemetery in a very beautiful mausoleum. Abraham Lincoln lived and practiced Law 1837,until he became president in 1861.Abraham Lincoln lived in Springfield, Illinois for about 23 years before he became president.

A poet named Vachel Lindsey was born in Springfield.Her home is now on display and she has her own memorial.The state Illinois gets its name from the Illinois river. Springfield is hoe to a 50 ft totem pole with an 8 ft statue of Abraham Lincoln on the top.
