To Mapplewell and Beyond!
To kick start our topic of Mapplewell and Beyond we had some local heroes into school to talk to the children. The first local hero to visit us was a local fireman. He showed us what fireman wear and what equipment they use.
After our visitor we got very busy learning all about physical and human features, map reading skills, directional language and perspectives. As part of our topic we have been on a learning walk around our local area and created maps to help visitors to Mapplewell.
We loved pulling all of our Geography knowledge together and creating our own maps of Mapplewell, complete with compass directions, keys and map symbols.
In Literacy this half term we have been very busy writing narratives and letters. We have had lots of fun learning news skills and applying them in our writing.
This has helped to produce some wonderful outcomes!
In Maths we have had a very bus half term looking at place value, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and fractions!
During our LIRA sessions we have been looking at lots and lots of different reading skills - the adults that work with us have been blown away by some of the work that we have been producing!
During our PE sessions this half term we have been improving our throwing and catching skills and started to use them in some small games. Also, we all got the opportunity to meet Commwealth Gold Medal winning Athlete Leon Baptiste - we even got to do a work out with him!
In Science we have been learning all about Mini Beasts, focusing on their habitats and and what they need to live.
For Harvest Festival we worked really hard to produce some great pieces of Art. We used pointilism to help paint a picuture of a tree changing from Summer to Autumn. We also learn the song Cauliflowers Fluffy and performed it to Father Tim who came into school and did a special assembly with us.
We have had lots of children win awards and certificates for reading, showing our school values and for collecting Dojo points - well done everyone!
