End of Summer Updates with NCDHR

We, here at the NCDHR, stand with the Black community against all forms of racism and oppression. Racism is a public health issue, and we are committed to listening, ongoing learning, striving to do better, and working together to achieve equity for all people.

Deaf Strong Hospital 2020 Update

Due to Coronavirus/COVID-19 and New York State guidelines for this upcoming Fall Semester, there will NOT be a Deaf Strong Hospital event this year, August 2020. We are bummed but understand this is the best choice to keep both our community members and URMC students safe.

Thank you to all of our community actors and facilitators for our past events! We will keep you informed of any updates for rescheduling, and/or plans for 2021. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to Kelly by VP 585-512-8519 or email: Kelly_Matthews@urmc.rochester.edu

Working from Home Continues

Faculty and staff within the NCDHR have been working from home since March 2020 and plan to continue working remotely until the end of 2020, as per University of Rochester guidelines. All employees can be reached at their email and VP addresses listed on our personnel page: https://www.urmc.rochester.edu/ncdhr/information/staff.aspx

While remote work took some adjusting, we have settled into Zoom meetings and online communication rather smoothly. We have also showcased some Work from Home series on our Instagram, give us a follow: www.instagram.com/ncdhr

Deaf Weight Wise Updates (2019-2024 Cycle)

Did you know? For the next phase of Deaf Weight Wise, we will be studying Implementation – the process of bringing a program from the research setting into community-based settings. We will be working in collaboration with nine potential partners to host Deaf Weight Wise. The new Deaf Weight Wise partners come from three cities: Rochester, Buffalo and Syracuse.

Due to COVID-19, we have continued to meet with our partners through Zoom video meetings to discuss how to set up DWW in their area. Instead of in-person group setting, Deaf Weight Wise will now support the health and well-being of Deaf individuals in these Deaf communities through Zoom video groups.

We are proud to share our NEW DWW logo. This was created by our Communications Coordinator, Riki de la Wink with support from NCDHR staff and the Rochester Deaf Weight Wise Community Committee. See box below to learn more about each circle representing Deaf Weight Wise.
