The Omnivore's Dilemma by Michael Pollan The advantages and DISADVANTAGES of GATHERING food

The Omnivore's Dilemma book cover.

In the book, The Omnivore’s Dilemma, Michael Pollan, the author, talks about the secrets behind what you eat. This book has a lot of information about what you should be eating more of and less of. It also talks about where food really comes from. For example, it explains where your chicken and beef comes from, your produce, and all of that corn. Michael Pollan really goes into the topic of corn. He explains that corn is in almost every single processed food, even drinks like soda! Have you ever heard of high-fructose corn syrup (HFCS)? Did you just think that it was a kind of sugar or something like that? Yes, it is pretty sugary, but it is made of corn. Corn comes in so many different forms, and it is not necessarily good for you, just because it is a vegetable. To conclude, this is only one example of Michael Pollan’s fact-packed book about what is really in your food.

This is Michael Pollan, the author of the book, The Omnivore's Dilemma.

Gardening is a very interesting thing to do just because you get to grow your own food. Then, when you eat it, you know everything that went into it.

Vegetables are good for you! Eat more vegetables than processed and cheap food.

It might seem gross or sad, but it is natural for humans to eat meat and animal products. The only way to get this meat is to either slaughter animals at a farm, or hunt them yourself.

Mushrooms are a kind of fungi, and you can eat them. Just be sure to pick and eat wild mushrooms with caution, because there are many kinds of delicious mushrooms that also have lookalikes that are poisonous.

Gathering mushrooms is an important skill to have, just in case you found yourself in the wild, or you were the only surviving person in a plane crash. Mushrooms can be really good for you, but they can also be poisonous, so be very cautious when picking and choosing wild mushrooms directly from outside. Many exotic dishes can be made with wild mushrooms that you could never find in a supermarket.

From these four places, where would you rather get your food?

Thank you so much for learning about gathering your own food on my website! I hope you have learned so much! This was created by Emma Boothby especially for you.
