Tornado Men's Basketball 2019-20 season preview

The King University men's basketball team looks to reload following a sixth place finish in Conference Carolinas play a season ago. Head coach George Pitts returns third team all-conference performer James Brown as well as 2017-18 Conference Carolinas Player of the Year Jordan Floyd to lead the Tornado in 2019-20.

Mike Salomon

  • Made eight three-point baskets on 13 attempts against Erskine on January 21, ranking third most in a game in program history
  • Has scored 769 career points, makding 161 three-point baskets and shooting 37.4 percent from long range

Justin Frazier

  • Was third in the league with 130 assists
  • Sixth in the conference with a 2.0 assist to turnover ratio
  • 43 steals ranked sixth in Conference Carolinas
  • Averaged 10.4 points, 2.0 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game

James Brown

6-2 | Sr. | G | Lansing, Mich.

  • Selected third team All-Conference Carolinas
  • Ninth in the league with an average of 14.3 points per game
  • Sixth in Conference Carolinas with 43 steals
  • Grabbed 4.0 rebounds and handed out 1.5 assists per game
  • Shot 46.6 percent from the floor
  • Posted two games with at least 30 points, both rank in the top 10 in program history

Tristan Upchurch

  • Made appearances in 14 games, scoring 10 points and grabbing seven rebounds
  • Scored a season-high of three points twice
  • Grabbed two rebounds against Belmont Abbey on February 20

Chad Dreswick

  • Averaged 1.7 points and 1.8 rebounds per game

JaMarquis Johnson

George Pitts

Pitts enters his 14th year manning the bench for the Tornado. In that time, the Tornado have won three Conference Carolinas regular season titles and one tournament title while qualifiying for the NCAA Men's Basketball Championship three times. Since joining Conference Carolinas in 2012-13, Pitts has coached two conference players of the year and two freshmen of the year. King has also had three players selected all-region and three Conference Carolinas Scholar Athletes of the Year.
