I chose to make Ginny Weasley's wand

Why Did I Choose This Character?

I chose to make Ginny Weasley's wand because she has always been my favorite character, and I like the style of her wand. Her wand's color is black. her wand's design is the top has a twist, and the middle is kind of like a scaly texture. The bottom is smooth and flat. You can get more information about Ginny and her wand at

The Wands I Wanted To Choose From...

The first wand that came into my mind was Harry Potter's wand.

This is Harry Potter's wand!

The second wand that popped into my mind was Hermione Granger's wand.

The last wand that I thought of was Ginny Weasley's wand.

I think the choosing was the hardest part. But eventually, I chose Ginny Weasley's wand.

Finding A Stick!!

You need to find two fourteen and a quarter sized sticks.

You can find one from the woods/forest.

Taking Off The Bark!!

Here I have just started, I am taking off the bark.
This is a different stick. I have already taken the top bark off, and now I'm taking off the under layer.

The knife I used to take the bark off was a box cutter. At first, I had on gloves, but I took them off when I got used to the knife. At first, it is good to use gloves in case you cut yourself it won't hurt you as bad. When cutting, you have to start by getting what you want to cut at an angle, then straighten it out.

Smoothing the Wood...

I started to make the wood smoother by rubbing the knife up and down the bark.

Here is the smoothed wood. The bottom isn't smooth yet.

The tip, or the place that the tip will be, is smoother than the handle part. This is because I smoothed it, and not the handle area.

My "Wands" So Far

My wands so far.

Making the Point!!

When you make the point, you have to make sure the end is rounded. You also have to have the entire thing even.

This is the tip so far.

I did more, and now it is way better than before.

This is the point now.
This is the finished tip.

Making the "Knots" At the Top...

When making the knots, you have to use the back and forth technique. When doing this, you have to go back and forth with the piece you are cutting off. This allows it to make a ridge in the stick.

I have only made one knot so far.

I made another knot, now I have two.

This is the 2nd knot.

The Middle!

I made the spiral type thing in the middle. I had to take a saw and go around the stick. I drew where I wanted the cut to be. I also drew a line where I wanted it to stop.

This is the middle.

I have started sanding. my stick used to be rough and jagged. Now it is really smooth.

This is my smooth stick.

I stained my stick a cherry color. It was supposed to be black, but the cherry looks way better.

Before After

I used Miniwax Wood Finish, cherry 235. It was in a small can. I only had to dip my rag in about 3 times, so you don't have to use too much to make it look good. It is good to wear an apron when you put it on the stick, because it can ruin your clothes. It is also good to wear a rubber glove as well, because it can also stain your hands.

This is the stain I used.

Clear Coating!

I have clear-coated my wand. I used Miniwax Polycritic Protective Finish.

This is what I used.

First, you have to dip a paint brush, but only dip the tip of the brush. Then you have to lightly put it on the wand. Let the part that you put the coat on dry. After it has dried, put the coat on the other side. Let it dry, then you have a finished wand.

This is my coated wand.

Artist Statement!!

To begin with, my project is Harry Potter Wand Project 1. I chose to make Ginny Weasley's wand. I got this character from the "Harry Potter" book series. Ginny Weasley has a black wand with twists as the handle. Her wand also has a scaly texture in the middle, below the twists. The bottom of the wand is smooth and goes down to a flattened point.

I chose Ginny Weasley because I like the texture and style of her wand. Ginny's wand was made by Garrick Ollivander. Her wand was made before she started school at Hogwarts.

Ginny's wand has no special meaning behind it. The wand has a twist, scaly texture, and is just flat out smooth. Her wand is 14 and 1/4 inches long. The wand's core is a unicorn hair/tail. The wood it was made from is yew wood. Her wand is very smooth. The color of her wand is black.

In conclusion, for my project I chose to make Ginny Weasley's wand. Her wand's texture is unique and beautiful.

Quote From Harry Potter!

"But Ginny was the best... her wand has the Bat Bogey Hex... she was superb..."
