Civic Leadership AwardS
Recognizes those who have shown sustained and impactful civic leadership in our community. Civic leadership is reflected in the capacity to identify, analyze, collaborate, and work towards solving pressing societal needs and issues.
Tyler Kasmir has served as a Democracy Fellow with the Campus Election Engagement Project for the past 2 years, engaging hundreds of his peers in the electoral process. Tyler has organized and implemented a variety of in-person and virtual programs and activities focusing on voter education, voter registration, and has worked to institutionalize voter engagement through MDC Homestead’s Shark Start Orientation program offered throughout the year.
Dr. Simeon Richardson
Dr. Simeon Richardson is a Social Justice Champion, on campus and beyond. As a founder of BMI (Beta Mu Iota), Professor Richardson has worked to address the low graduation rate of Black males. He created a network of almost a hundred students, faculty and staff to share academic support, employment opportunities and community resources. As a response to Covid-19, Professor Richardson helped BMI members connect in the midst of the pandemic, protests, and the culture changes of the past year. And as the co-founder of UFMDC’s Mirror Project, Professor Richardson organized college faculty to identify and provide remedies for issues related to systemic racism and poverty in our college and communities.
Civic Champion Award
We recognize and appreciate the HCTS Team for their tireless commitment to helping iCED and the entire campus community pivot to a remote learning and working environment during the past year. Their tech expertise and guidance has been invaluable!
