To the BASD Staff, Parents, Students, and Community

A BASD education works to IGNITE curiosity and imagination, ENCOURAGE creative cooperation and individual growth, and EMPOWER leadership and global thinking. The e-News is designed to share events and activities going on in the BASD and the Lehigh Valley and show how we are #builtbybethlehem. It is our hope that you find it informative outlining BASD student and staff achievements, BASD opportunities, and area events taking place.

The BASD e-News is divided into sections below. The sections include School News, Videos from BASD Media, A showcased item from the BASD Blog. Information sections BASD MiniTHON, The Foundation for the Bethlehem Area School District, Nutritional Tips. BASD Job Opportunities. We also have information items from BAVTS, Colleges/Community Colleges/Universities, ArtsQuest, Allentown Art Museum, and the Bethlehem Public Library. The Last Section contains events and fundraisers in the Area.

BASD United Way Campaign 2019

To our BASD Staff and Students - Thank you to everyone that participated in this year's BASD United Way Campaign. With your help we are #BASDproud and excited to announce that we set a new record in total dollars donated at over $47,000 and increased our participation rate from 194 employees to 546 employees, a 180% participation rate.

A special thank you to Coach Stellato at Freedom High School for organizing the BASD United Way event at the Liberty and Freedom basketball game.

An extra special thank you to Dan Mensch from Geico for providing the shirts for the campaign. Dan is happy to provide a free insurance quote at 610-437-7119.

We prepared this BASD video for the United Way to thank them for all they do for the BASD and the Lehigh Valley. We hope you take a moment to watch and enjoy.

BASD Gear is now available to purchase. Items available include t-shirts, sweatshirts, backpacks, messenger bags, blankets, etc. More items coming soon. The items contain our BASD logo and some items contain our District theme #builtbybethlehem and all are very reasonably priced.

Items can be delivered to your school free of charge or to your home for a nominal fee. For each item sold, $1 will be donated to The Foundation for the Bethlehem Area School District.

BASD Board Welcomes Two New Members

Two new and three re-elected Bethlehem Area School District Board of Directors were sworn in during a reorganization meeting held December 2, 2019 at the Education Center.

Emily Schenkel and Dr. Kim Shively were sworn in and welcomed by the board, their families, and those in attendance.

Moravian College's master of education degree in curriculum and instruction has been designed to fit the specific needs of practicing teachers. Each course in the program is immediately applicable to the classroom, with an underlying philosophy of reflective teaching and a focus on action research. This thirty-six credit program requires no admission exams or entrance essays, only a sincere interest in improving teaching practice.

ArtsQuest is a Bethlehem-based nonprofit dedicated to presenting music, arts, festivals, cultural experiences and educational and outreach programs that aid in economic development, urban revitalization and community enrichment. Through festivals such as its flagship event, Musikfest; the Banana Factory Arts Center; and the ArtsQuest Center and SteelStacks arts and cultural campus, ArtsQuest’s programming reaches more than 1.5 million people annually. The organization’s programs and events, approximately 65 percent of which are free to attend, have a combined economic impact of more than $100 million annually in the region.
