In Ms. Story's class we encourage independence and equal access. Students who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing are being taught about adaptive equipment that can be used to aid them in the world around them. We have discussed vibrating alarm clocks, video phones, doorbells with light flashing indicators, amplifiers for TV viewing, caption goggles for movie theaters, captioning videos at school, and more. A quick video was made by a second grade student at Jefferson to teach others about how the doorbell with light flashing indicators works.

Ms. King and Ms. Dobson are so proud of the hard work their students put into these performances and thankful for all of the staff who attended, loaned costumes and props, and helped organize the event.

The GT Central Community Connection students have been working on leadership standards all year for a culminating community outreach project. The students raised money, communicated with the Muscatine Parks and Rec Department, purchased 2 trees and planted those trees at Musser Park. This is the second year for the program. All together the students have planted 3 trees in Muscatine City Parks. The trees are registered online with the City of Muscatine for long term monitoring. Thank you to CR Landscaping and the Parks and Rec Department for working with our students!

WEST MIDDLE SCHOOL

The Sixth Grade Gold House at West Middle School gathered together this week to present awards to students who have been outstanding citizens throughout the entire 2017-2018 school year. Being ready, respectful, and responsible is something that is expected of the students at West, and the individuals who have earned this award have been just that. As a sixth grader, they have came to class and walked in the hallways demonstrating that they are good citizens. They never have to be disciplined, and they are kind to their peers. The teachers believe that it is important to reward this behavior because they hope the students continue to be outstanding individuals in seventh grade and beyond.

---------------------------------------------------------

A representative from the Ronald McDonald house came to WMS for the Ricochet 2 group to present the check for the money they raised from a Root Beer Float sale. Great job Ricochet!

---------------------------------------------------------

On Thursday, Caleb Trosen and Nolan Recker presented their final Geometry project to Matt Steffen, who is an engineer from Carver Pump. The boys are from Mrs. Lopez's Geometry class at WMS. They have been working on creating a functional model of a pulley and lift system similar to ones they saw at Carver Pump when they visited in December, but the boys were asked to add their own ideas to the model. The lifts are used to move pump casings on and off the machines. Caleb and Nolan applied topics they learned this year in Geometry, but also had to do a lot of research and work on their own.

MUSCATINE HIGH SCHOOL

This is the last morning for AP testing. 598 exams have been given over the course of the last two weeks. Nineteen AP courses were offered at the high school this year. Next year we will be adding AP Computer Science to our curriculum offerings. The students have worked hard all year long and have taken their end of course exams very seriously. Go Muskies!!

MHS A cappella choir performed their last concert for the school year.

---------------------------------------------------------

The Treble Choir warms up for class with "Yo Ho." Wandering while they sing, the singers are exposed to all parts of the round and forced to listen carefully to stay in time with each other.
