My Country Tis of Thy People You're Dying By Buffy Sainte Marie

My Country Tis of Thy People You're Dying was released in 1966.

Buffy Sainte Marie also sings "Universal Soldier" and "Starwalker".

In Buffy's song she says " Now that the longhouses breed superstition You force us to send our toddlers away To your schools where they're taught to despise their traditions. Forbid them their languages, then further say That American history really began" In this verse of the song she exclaims that she does not think it is right for children to be shipped to school where they stripped of their culture and traditions. Buffy is trying to inform the listener about the difficulties that Native Americans have to face during this time period. She is protesting for the rights of Native Americans in the American society.
