Trip to Retezat June 2016

Day 1

Day 1

We arrive in Poiana Pelegii at 5 p.m. and settle in at the Mountain Rescue chalet as the weather conditions are not appropriate for setting camp ( just half an hour before there was a storm in the area.)

Day 2

Early in the morning we have our coffee, have a yummy hike breakfast and hit the rocky road. We arrive at Bucura Lake, the largest glacier lake in Romania were we meet the people we have to evaluate. We have a nice talk with these young mountaineers and then ask for some advice from the mountain rescue, then soon move on towards the peak. At 12.00 we are welcomed by a misty Peleaga Peak (2509 m). Playing hard to get? never mind. We will not give up, we wait and wait, and pledge to conquering you by sight not only by foot. After 2 hours of courtship you are convinced, you give in, and we find you more beautiful than we remembered. We would like to remember every peak we see and as we descend we recapture the wonder, inhale the overflow of fresh air. It is a feast for our soul, mind and body.

Day 3

Day 3, departure day. I am torn, torn between the joy this morning offers us and the sadness that I will soon be back in the city, surrounded by too little green, fresh air and silence. Another delicious coffee on the camp stove after a perfectly cozy night in tent. We pack, we leave... we will come back. À tout à l'heure, Retezat- notre amour!
