Tell us about your career history and how you ended up doing what you do.
I was a nurse when I decided to join a friend on a Royal Horticultural Society course doing the General Certificate in Horticulture. After that I started gardening professionally (still nursing part-time) and did so for about 10 years. 2 years ago I started the business of planting plans and advice as I was increasingly being asked to advise on which plants would be suitable in different areas. I saw that people wanted plant advice but didn’t want their whole garden redesigned at a huge expense.
What does your business offer? What makes it unique and what special offers/events/courses/products do you currently have?
I offer expertise in which plants will be suitable for your garden via planting consultations or planting plans. I also offer advice and practical help with planting and how to look after your plants and garden. It is unique because there is no one else (that I can find) who will come to your garden and advise you how to improve it with the right plants as well as assist you in sourcing, buying and planting. I offer a 4 Seasons aftercare service too. My services are totally individual and are tailored to each client.
Who are your ideal clients?
Anyone who wants to have a good looking garden.
Who would you like to connect with? Who could you collaborate with?
It would be good to meet a Landscaper who genuinely would like to collaborate. Otherwise I find connecting with people in all walks of life good. You never know where the work is coming from next.
What are you most proud of in your business?
That I had a good idea and I used it to start a business when I had no previous business experience. I have listened and learnt along the way and my commitment is paying off.
What’s your biggest challenge in business?
Finding new clients.
What does success mean to you?
Pride, from achieving what I set out to do and earning money from it.
What plans do you have for the coming year?
To continue to find new clients and promote my 4 Seasons package of continuing support.
What do you think of POP connect?
A great friendly way to connect with people. It is more like a club because you become friends with the other members in your quest to not only to get more business but to learn more about running a business and to help others.
