The winter break gave us some time to reflect on what a very different year 2020 was compared to what was once normal pre Covid 19.
But what we recognised was that although we had a lot of disruption, events were cancelled, we adapted to home working, we couldn't see our colleagues, friends and family, we collaborated and communicated more and better than before. We have grown our relationships and made the best of a situation.
The pandemic has, dare I say it, accelerated digital transformation and the adoption of IoT, and the use of Computer Vision.
We have been very active with our friends at Intel with the 20/20 Vision Hack and Phase 1 closed on January 17th with a great response which we cover a little later on. We have also been investing in new tools to support the community more and engaging in real time with the ADLINK Livestreams on Youtube, Linkedin and Facebook. ADLINK in collaboration with Intel & OpenVINO teams launched the 20/20 Vision Hack on December 16th 2020, to collaboratively find solutions to industrial problems, the prize does not stop at $10,000, it also offers the opportunity to collaborate with the ADLINK and Intel teams to Go To Market with your prototype.
ADLINK will be supporting individuals and small/medium-sized enterprise (SME) businesses that specialise in building AI models with vision as a sensor that solve industrial problems. ADLINK are seeking solution builders around the globe who create products that solve industrial problems.
There were 110 lucky winners of Intel Neural Stick 2's by simply following the #2020visionhack hashtag and following some really simple tasks. You never know more mini competitions may pop up through Phase 2.

Quantization of TensorFlow Object Detection API Models – Neuralet

In this tutorial, we will examine various TensorFlow tools for quantizing object detection models. We start off by giving a brief overview of quantization in deep neural networks, followed by explaining different approaches to quantization and discussing the advantages and disadvantages of using each approach. We will then introduce TensorFlow tools to train a custom object detection model and convert it into a lightweight, quantized model with TFLiteConverter and TOCOConverter. Finally, as a use case example, we will examine the performance of different quantization approaches on the Coral Edge TPU.
IoT All the Things AWS Video
In case you missed it, ADLINK’s head of engineering for Edge Solutions, Rob Boville, starred in the AWS Reinvent edition of IoT All The Things livestream sharing his own personal Vizi-AI project to keep delivery drivers from using his lawn as a shortcut.
Rob is using Twilio SMS notifications with NodeRed that is included in the Vizi-AI ADLINK Edge Platform bundle, along with Intel OpenVINO.
