UN Day Creating a Blueprint for a Better Future

About UN Day

In October, the United Nations celebrates its 76th anniversary! To recognize this occasion, UNA-USA is hosting a virtual UN Day program Monday, October 25. We’re convening UN officials, young change-makers, and the most essential part of our movement—you, our members.

For more than seven decades, UNA-USA members have advocated on behalf of the UN and its agencies. Over the last year and a half, we’ve been reminded of how just how interconnected the world is and that a threat anywhere—from the COVID-19 pandemic to intensifying impacts of climate change—is a threat everywhere.

The U.S. should not—and cannot—tackle global challenges alone. Our members know that creating a blueprint for a better future can only be achieved through working in tandem with the UN.

Keynote Speakers:

Featured Speakers:

  • Rachel Pittman, Executive Director of UNA-USA
  • Paula Boland, UNA-USA National Council Chairperson and Executive Director, UNA-NCA
  • Cynthia Yue, UNA-USA's 10th Youth Observer to the United Nations
  • Besem Obenson, Representative in Guatemala, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR)
  • Dennis Latimer, Representative in Honduras, Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO)

Don’t miss out on this special celebration—join us!

Call-in Challenge

Join our Call-in Challenge!

Monday, October 25

In conjunction with our virtual UN Day program, we’re hosting a national Call-In Challenge and encouraging you to contact your Representative to ask that they support the United States Commitment to Peacekeeping Act.

For over 25 years, the U.S. has imposed an arbitrary cap on our payments to UN Peacekeeping. As a result, the U.S. is currently $1 billion in arrears to UN Peacekeeping.

Rep. Sara Jacobs recently introduced a bill to permanently repeal the cap so that the U.S. can pay its treaty-obligated dues in full, a crucial step in restoring our credibility at the UN.

Your voice makes an impact. Learn more about our Call-in Challenge and review resources to help you prepare!

Need additional guidance? No worries, we've got you covered! UNA-USA staff members and Advocacy Leads will walk you through talking points, help you prepare for your calls, and answer your questions at our virtual Help Desk on October 25. The Help Desk will be staffed from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. ET and 5 p.m. – 6 p.m. ET.

Help us promote the program!
