Bradley L. Dunn and Megha Singh of Hinshaw & Culbertson have stepped in to represent Healthcare Revenue Recovery Group in a pending lawsuit for claims under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. The suit was filed Aug. 24 in Arizona District Court by Kazerouni Law Group on behalf of Tysha Schmitz. The case, assigned to U.S. District Judge G. Murray Snow, is 2:21-cv-01464, Schmitz v. Corporate Transactions

Columbia Banking System, Inc. and Umpqua Holdings Corp. have agreed to merge in an all-stock combination valued at approximately $8.2 billion. The transaction, announced Oct. 12, is expected to close in the middle of 2022. Tacoma, Washington-based Columbia Banking is advised by Sullivan & Cromwell. Emerson Electric has agreed to merge its industrial software unit with rival Aspen Technology in a deal valued at approximately $11 billion. Under the terms of the transaction, Emerson will also contribute $6 billion and receive a 55% stake in the new company. The transaction, announced Oct. 11, is expected to close in the second quarter of 2022. St. Louis, Missouri-based Emerson was represented by Davis Polk & Wardwell. Supernus Pharmaceuticals, a pharmaceutical company focused on treatments for disorders of the central nervous system, has agreed to acquire Adamas Pharmaceuticals for approximately $450 million. The transaction, announced Oct. 11, is expected to close by early 2022 and will provide Supernus with two FDA approved treatments for Parkinson’s disease. Rockville, Maryland-based Supernus was advised by Saul Ewing Arnstein & Lehr. Adamas, which is based in Emeryville, California, was represented by a Cooley team including partners Robert Jones, Jamie Leigh and Ian Nussbaum. Boston Scientific Corporation has agreed to acquire Baylis Medical Company Inc. for an upfront cash payment of $1.75 billion. The transaction, announced Oct. 6, is expected to close in early 2022. InterActiveCorp.’s Dotdash has agreed to purchase magazine publisher Meredith Corp.’s media assets for $2.7 billion. The transaction was announced Oct. 6. Mass Torts and Multidistrict Litigation

As Law.com’s Amanda Bronstad reported, four lawyers will lead more than a dozen lawsuits brought against Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corp. over its chemotherapy drug Tasigna. On Sept. 28, U.S. District Judge Roy Dalton, of the Middle District of Florida, granted approval of the team, which consists of plaintiffs’ co-lead counsel Raymond Silverman (Parker Waichman), Richard Elias (Elias LLC) and Lawana Wichmann (OnderLaw), and plaintiffs’ liaison counsel Chris Oxx (Parker Waichman). Joe Hollingsworth and Robert Johnston (Hollingsworth) are co-lead counsel for Novartis, and Andrew Reissaus (Hollingsworth) is defense liaison counsel.
