According to Abraham Maslow's study of self-actualized people, they are people who are self-aware, self-accepting, open, spontaneous, loving, and caring. The people of Nine Mile, Jamaica helped to teach me how to be a self-actualized person. They showed me how to be open, loving, and caring to people that I barely knew. They also showed me how to be self-aware and self-accepting through their sense of community and knowing when to ask for help from others.
Carl Rogers said that people are basically good, they just have to be in the right environment. This picture represents the environment that I was brought up in and that my family has helped to shape me into the good person that I am today.
