Monkton Park Newsletter 7th September 2018

It has been lovely to see all the children settle in so well in our first week back and we've enjoyed finding out all things they got up to over the summer holidays.

A very warm welcome to all the children in reception (and their families) who have started with us this week. Next week they will be having lunch at school so we hope they enjoy that just as much!

Welcome also to Toby, Dixie, James, Rylah & Alfie who have started with us in other year groups. We hope you enjoy your learning at Monkton Park this year.

We are delighted to see so many children coming in with healthy snacks. Change 4 Life (NHS) advises that fruit and vegetables are always the best choice, but if you're shopping for packaged snacks for your children, use this helpful tip: look for 100 calorie snacks, two a day max! Chocolate and crisps are not allowed as a playtime snack. We encourage all children to drink water during the school day and squash is not allowed in class or at playtime.

Summer work

As you may know we have renovated two classrooms over the summer (Rabbits and Field mice). We are delighted with how they look and hope they will help provide a calm learning environment for the children in there.

We utilised a lot of research in designing the classrooms to ensure they meet the needs of all children, including for example, those on the autistic spectrum and children who have dyslexia.

As you may have seen, our wildflower meadow came to life over the summer holidays. We're delighted with how amazing it looks!

Not quite as exciting, but we removed all loose paving slabs to ensure children could play safely on the field. We reseeded the area with grass seed so hopefully it will look as good as new soon.

We have changed our awards this year. Achievement certificates will be awarded to one child per class every week in our celebration assembly. This is to replace our bronze, silver and gold certificates.

Each term will be linked to one of our values. Term 1: Community Term 2: Adventure Term 3: Respect Term 4: Enjoyment Term 5: Success Term 6: Teachers can choose any value

Congratulations in week 1 to: Riley James, Heidi Treweke, Morgan Lowe, Malak Ziadi, Ethan Hallett, Oliver Sandison, Elsie Warner & George Kick
