USC Takes Down BYU at Staples Center The Trojans defeated the Cougars 91-84 to remain undefeated on the year.

USC traveled north up Figueroa on Saturday to participate in Hoophall LA. The Trojans faced off with the BYU Cougars following Gonzaga's win over Arizona. The Trojans got off to a slow start, but that did not deter them from fighting back.

Shaqquan Aaron kept the team in it with 14 points in the first half, connecting on four shots from downtown. He finished the game with 19 points, five rebounds and two assists. Elijah Stewart also added 16 points to the cause, while freshman Jonah Mathews had 8 points.
USC got a big night from captain Jordan McLaughlin. The junior had a season-high 24 points to go along with four assists and six rebounds. McLaughlin and the Trojans were stellar from 3, making 43 percent of their attempts. They held BYU to just 22 percent shooting from downtown.
But when it mattered most down the stretch, freshman De'Anthony Melton continued to play like a veteran. Melton hit a big time jumper to keep BYU at bay and then threw a home run pass to Stewart to keep the Trojans ahead. Melton finished the game with 12 points, a team-high six assists and eight rebounds, and two of the team's 11 steals.

With tonight's win, the Trojans continue to roll to one of the best starts in recent school history.
