The Omaha hockey team earned a sweep of its weekend series at Colorado College, winning 5-2 and 4-2 last week at Colorado Springs. On Friday, Tyler Vesel had a pair of power play goals, and David Pope netted the game winner. Kris Oldham made 28 saves to pick up his fifth win of the year.

On Saturday, Justin Parizek scored a pair of goals, including the game winner, as the Mavericks earned their first sweep at CC. Evan Weninger made 30 saves to earn his eighth win of the season. As a result, the Mavericks moved from seventh to fourth place in the NCHC standings.


The Omaha men's basketball team went 2-0 in league play last week, extending its win streak to three games. The Mavericks opened with a 79-71 win at IUPUI Wednesday, led by 20 points from Zach Jackson. Tre'Shawn Thurman finished with 16 points and nine rebounds, and Mitch Hahn chipped in another 15 points, four boards and three blocks. Marcus Tyus rounded it out with 13 points alongside seven caroms and a career-high five steals, and Zach Pirog added a career-high four blocks.

Omaha returned home Saturday for an 86-72 win over Western Illinois, powered by a combined 49 points and 11 3-pointers from Tyus and Hahn. Tyus led all scorers with 25 points with five 3-pointers and four steals, while Hahn had 24 points with six triples and six rebounds. Tra-Deon Hollins added 13 points, nine assists, seven rebounds and six steals, which moved second in school history for career steals (190). Daniel Norl also had 11 points, going 3-of-3 from deep, and Thurman posted eight points, a team-best 10 rebounds, a career-high-tying five assists and two blocks.


The Omaha women’s basketball team went 0-2 in conference play last week. The Mavericks dropped a 78-74 decision to Western Illinois on Wednesday. Michaela Dapprich scored a team-high 20 points on 7-of-15 shooting with six 3-pointers, adding six rebounds and an assist. Remy Davenport finished with 19 points, eight assists and four rebounds. Mikaela Shaw added her fifth double-double of the season with 16 points, 12 rebounds and four assists.

On Saturday, Omaha was edged 60-52 by South Dakota. Shaw paced the Mavericks with 22 points, hitting 10-of-12 from the free throw line. Dapprich added 15 points with three 3-pointers. Abi Lujan added a game-high nine rebounds, while Courtney Vaccher had seven points and seven rebounds.


The Omaha swimming & diving team returned to the pool for the first time in over a month on Saturday, falling 197-98 at Nebraska. Morgan Stepp recorded the only event win for the Mavericks, taking the victory in the 200 fly with her third-fastest time on the season at 2:07.22.


The Omaha track & field team returned to competition at the Holiday Inn Invitational at Nebraska last week. Stephanie Ahrens took fourth place in the high jump with a leap of 5-07. In the triple jump, Nyakuome Thichiot was seventh with a jump of 35-08 ¾, a personal best by more than six inches. Anna Edet had a PR of 51-06 ½ in the weight throw, taking fourth place. It was the second straight PR for Edet and is the sixth-best mark in the event in school history. On the track, Annie Catania posted a personal best in the mile with a time of 5:31.14.


The Omaha men’s tennis team dropped its season opener at No. 12 Oklahoma on Sunday afternoon, 6-1. Razvan Grigorescu picked up the lone victory for the Mavericks, topping No. 18 Spencer Papa in split sets 6-4, 3-6, 1-0 (10-7). Grigorescu and doubles partner Colin Buckley nearly pulled an upset at the top doubles spot but fell, 6-4.
