February Lab BY JESSICA YOUNG & BIWEN ZHU

HIGHLIGHTS

  • In the Discovery & Synthesis area, we partnered with Brad Goode and Caitlen Denny in Velocity IP MVP definition through user interviews, mockup iterations and story mapping exercises. We facilitated a journey mapping workshop for the new gene editing Biotech pipeline, and started solution design brainstorming with the product team. A research proposal to investigate integration points from lab to field (or Greenhouse) has also been developed.
  • In the Molecular Analysis area, GWS Chip processes for Soy SSD and DH Corn have been mapped.
  • In the Lab Management area, we continued to work with Rachel Krieb and Lindsey Winterton and refined our plan for the coming LIMS card sorting workshop. We have also participated in a two-day lean mapping event for the St Louis Tagman lab process, and digitalized our learnings in our central process repository.

In addition to the existing funded projects, the design team is initiating a research effort to use 'diaries' to investigate user experience for lab bench scientists across Monsanto business functions. The idea is to have designers shadow a bench scientist over a long period of time, log an entry of observations after certain triggering events (e.g., receive tissue samples), synthesize common user 'pains' across labs, and from there innovate product opportunities for the lab IT platform.

THANK YOU FOR PROVIDING FEEDBACK ON OUR MID-YEAR PERFORMANCE

Positive Survey Results : How Likely would you recommend design services to colleagues (8 total responses out of 52)

In March, our focus is to continue the solution discussion for gene editing pipeline, complete the card sorting workshop for LIMS refresh project, map out MBT two-rounds testing process (i.e., start with MAS, followed by GWS), and finalize the 'Diary' study proposal. We will also start to look into the clone finishing workflow for Biotech.

Last but not least, the designer role for lab is still open and Biwen is hoping to get it filled in March. So please spread this out if you know anyone who might be interested !
