The Phelophepa Train of Hope by olivia gavin 2A

Their History

When the train was originally established in 1994, there were only three eye clinic coaches. A year later, it recognized the need to expand its services; expanding to comprehensive optometry, dental and psychological care. The train is now in its eighteenth year, and has gone from three to eighteen cars. The programs include primary health care, education, and outreach program services including HIV/AIDS education. They also help with the training of community volunteers in basic healthcare and screening procedures, as well as educating local school children.

More than 500,000 eyeglasses have been made and distributed by this clinic
Our vision, to bring hope, empowerment and health equity to the poor in the rural communities of South Africa.
