In 2015, the US Census Bureau approximated the population of African Americans in the USA is 46.3 million out of a total population of 321.4 million which comes down to roughly 14.4% of the overall USA population, according to...
In the 2016 election, 96% of eligible African American voters came out and voted. Hillary Clinton receiving 89% of African voters and Donald Trump receiving only 8%. This breaks down into; Clinton earned 94% of African women votes and 82% of African men votes, while Trump earned 4% of African women vote and 13% of African men votes.
2016 Voters by Race and Gender
As you can see, the majority of the African American votes were towards Clinton. Looking back through the years, focusing on the African American votes, we can see a pattern:
African American Party Affiliation
As this graph shows, African voters are usually affiliated and tend to vote for Democrats regardless of who is running. in 1936, only 44% of African American voters affiliated themselves with the Democratic Party and 71% voted Democratic. By the year 2012, 76% of all African American voters were affiliated with the Democratic Party and 93% voted Democratic that year.
Clinton earned 95% of African Women without college degrees and 91% of African Women with college degrees. Hillary also earned 82 % of African Men without college degrees and 78% of African Men with college degrees. This is because the Democratic Party usually tend to target low-income populations, on the other hand educated African Americans tend to vote for more conservative economic policies that may affect them.
African American Vote by Education
In this video Trump said "our inner cities African-Americans or living in hell because it's so dangerous. You walk down the street, you get shot in Chicago..." In my opinion, isn't helping his case and in fact as a result the African community would resent him even more. Stacy Washington first starts off by mocking Trump and says "I've been black for a long time and I'm not living in hell, except the hell that Donald Trump is creating today..." Kierna Mayo argues that Trump doesn't mention the problems facing "inner cities blacks" but says problem facing "inner cities Chicago."
Even Though Hillary Clinton earned 94% of the African American Women votes and 82% of the African American Men votes she still lost the election. Donald Trump on the other hand, earned 8% of the African American Women votes and 13% of the African American Men votes and somehow managed to win the election. In 1936 despite only 44% of African American Voters were affiliated with the Democratic Party, 77% of them voted for the Democratic Party that year. African American voters are usually affiliated and tend to vote for the Democratic Party. In 2012, 76% of the African American voters were affiliated with the Democratic Party, yet 93% of them voted Democratic. In my opinion, Trump said some insulting and racial comment towards the African community and I believe thats one of the many reasons that they didn't vote for him.
