Welcome to our Early Years Foundation Stage

As we are unable to invite families into school as usual we have put together this virtual tour. We hope it gives a flavour of our school and answers some of the questions you may have.

What is the Early Years Foundation Stage?

  • It is the stage your child is in until they reach the end of their reception year

What can you expect from the Early Years Foundation Stage at St Mary’s?

A safe environment where your child will learn through high quality play
Your child will develop at their own pace, not pushed or pressured
An emphasis on active learning and fun
Adults who understand and care about your child. Key workers who will pick up on interests and abilities and develop them through play and quality interactions

How can you help?

  • Uniform- school uniform jogging bottoms, white polo top and school uniform sweatshirt School uniform shorts in the summer (girls and boys) Black or white Velcro shoes/trainers
  • Practicalities - name all clothes and shoes
  • Let your child dress him/herself - putting on coat, putting on shoes
  • Encourage them to become more independent

Information for Nursery Children

  • Nursery visits to take place during the first two weeks of term (Wednesday 2nd – Friday 11th September), parent to accompany child for a short session to look around the Nursery
  • These sessions are approximately 20 minutes. Discuss any worries or concerns with teacher and teaching assistant. To take a photograph and get to know your child
  • This makes a big difference to how your child settles in
  • Transition questionnaire
  • Children begin nursery on Monday 14th September and stay for the session 8.30am – 11.30pm or 12.30pm – 3.30pm (flexible for first week)
  • Your child will also be given a healthy snack both in Nursery and Reception

Arrangements for Reception Classes

  • Monday 31st August and Tuesday 1st September school closed (Bank Holiday and INSET days)
  • Wednesday 2nd September - Friday 11th September children in ½ days 9.00am – 12.00pm (including lunch)
  • Monday 14th September children in full time 9.00am - 3.30pm
