Eating Through COVID-19: Week Four By Jamison Davis

I feel like for every week that goes by with me being in isolation, I'm getting slightly crazier. I miss people! I know I say that every week, but I do! I know they say that this week is supposed to be the start of the 2-week peak period of COVID-19, which sucks, but hopefully, we're able to start to go "back to normal" by mid-May. That may sound super hopeful, but hope's carried me this far, I might as well keep riding with it.

Monday, April 6: One thing I'm grateful for today? My bullet journal. If you don't know what that is, it's a blank dotted journal that comes in all sizes and colors and you do what you want with it. I, personally, use mine as a planner for school and other events I have to do for the week. I'm a stationery geek, so it gives me an excuse to use all of my colored pens and highlighters and it makes me feel productive.

Speaking of being productive, my mom went a little quarantine-crazy and created an entire dinner menu for the week, mainly because we never can decide on what we want to eat. Today was burgers and bratwursts. I'm not a big fan of bratwursts (a whole other story, honestly a scary experience), so I just had a cheeseburger and some applesauce. What can I say? We live the simple life sometimes.

Tuesday, April 7: Happy Tuesday! Since I've been holed up in my house for who knows how many days now, I decided to start something fun: set a record for how many smoothies I can drink during quarantine (as of Friday, when I'm editing this, I'm at 16). Yes, I know, my friends have already told me that I might be addicted, but tell me something I don't know. There might be an intervention coming, but who knows? Tonight in my mom's dinner plan: taco ring! Honestly, this is one of my favorite meals to cook and put together and it's literally the easiest things to make and enjoy.

Wednesday, April 8: I finally got out of the house! Yay!! My dad and I had made brisket and mac and cheese earlier in the week, so my family decided to take a small trip to Gahanna and drop some food off to my grandma. Of course, we practiced social distancing, so she stood outside of the car when we met her outside, but we don't get to see her a lot, so it was nice to take that trip.

Okay, but pause: let me tell you about this biscuits we brought her! My family used to take vacations to Destin, Florida every year (and if you haven't been, you should definitely go when all this is over!) and we used to go to this restaurant called Jim N Nick's. They have these cheesy biscuits that almost put Red Lobster's cheddar bay biscuits to shame. Almost. Anyway, similar to Red Lobster, they sell their biscuit mix in the cutest little canvas drawstring bag to make yourself! They only lasted a couple days, they were so good. It makes me sad they don't have a location in Ohio...

Thursday, April 9: You're not gonna believe this...we had pizza a day earlier than we usually do. I know, crazy, right?! No one knew what they wanted, so we settled for Papa John's. Today was the day I also realized that my mom is obsessed with their cheese sauce and breadsticks. I don't blame her, they're good. Other than that, it's been a pretty chill day, and it's almost Easter, so yay!

Friday, April 10: Happy Good Friday (or Happy regular Friday, if you're not religious. We're inclusive of everybody :D)! Today was a pretty productive day when it came to finishing up schoolwork, but I also got bored so I painted my nails during a study break. Does anybody else do that: you give yourself a 15 or 30 minute break and you just do something completely random and good for your health? Or is that just me, so I don't go completely insane?

Anyway, yes, we kept the tradition of pizza Friday, even though we had pizza yesterday. My brother and I tried the new Pizza Hut location that opened up on Sawmill Road (in the plaza next to Papa John's, Wing Snob, etc.) and it tastes the same as other Pizza Hut locations we've had, and I only say that because I've been told that it tastes somewhat different, but I'm not sure, get it for delivery or carryout and see for yourself!

Honestly though, I hope you guys had a great week. I know it sounds cheesy, and it's everywhere right now, but we are all in this together, so do your part and stay home so we can stop the spread faster :) Happy Eating and Happy Easter Kilbourne!
