Wisconsin Alumnae April Newsletter 2017

Hello Alumnae Sisters!

We are so happy you all enjoyed last month's newsletter. Now that our semester is in full swing, we've been keeping busy with various events such as our annual Pop Tabs Competition, Ronald McDonald Service, and Risk Management Workshops. We have had a strong month of giving back to the community and hosting internal events. Our chapter also had the opportunity to celebrate Women's History Month along with the rest of the chapters and learned a lot about the advancements of women in the community. We wish you all a happy April and thank you so much for reading our newsletter!

Love and Friendship, Chapter <3

Here's a look at what we've been up to!

Triple S Competition

Thank you to our sisters Bea Carvajal, Susan Luo, Jennie Do, Alysha Huynh, Maikoau Vang, and special shout out to our alum Thuy Dan Tran for competing in the annual Triple S Show hosted by the Gamma Mu Chapter of Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority, Inc. The event was a blast and our sisters did a wonderful job.

Sigma Lambda Beta Social

This semester our chapter got to reconnect with the Delta Delta chapter of Sigma Lambda Beta International Fraternity, Inc. Our sisters had fun rock climbing, bowling, and playing pool all while building greek unity among our Multicultural Greek Council.

Ronald McDonald Service

Our sisters Tine Le, Kimberly Vue, Alice Wnuk, Ivette Mendoza, Susan Luo, and Panouly Moua had a great time volunteering at the Ronald McDonald House and giving back to community. They baked sweet goods for the residents and created new memories with one another. The Ronald McDonald House is something that we hold near and dear to our hearts and is something we look forward to every semester. We appreciate the support and assistance they provide to the local Madison community.

All Greek Awards

We were honored to be recognized at the All Greek Awards for all of our hard work on campus. A big thank you to the All Greek Council for awarding our chapter with Outstanding Community Service and Values Integration.
Big shout out to our sisters #48 Maikoau "KEENai" Vang for being awarded Outstanding Sorority Member and #50 Jennie "3var'deen" Do for being awarded Outstanding Chapter President!

Risk Management Workshops

Basic Legal Concept

This month our risk management chair/parliamentarian Ka Vang set up two RMP workshops for us. For our first workshop, we had UW police officer, Matt Schirmacher, give a presentation about the different resources that students on campus can utilize when they are in danger.

Fire Safety

Our second workshop was held at the City of Madison Fire Station #1 where we met with community education officer, Bernadette Galvez, who informed us on the importance of fire safety and prevention. Overall, sisters had a fun time touring the fire station and wearing fire fighter clothing!

Women's History Month

March was a month filled with excitement and empowerment for all women across the nation. We had the opportunity to reflect on the importance of gender equality and recognize women who have made a tremendous impact in our society.

Pop Tab Competition

In collaboration with the Gamma Theta Chapter of Lambda Theta Phi Latin Fraternity, Inc. we held our annual pop tabs competition to help raise money for the Ronald McDonald House. It was an enjoyable night filled with pop tabs pong, musical chairs, twister, and three-legged races. Collectively, we were able to gather 3 gallon bags full of pop tabs!
Playing games and having fun!
Congrats to the gentlemen of Chi Sigma Tau National Fraternity, Inc. Delta Chapter for winning the pop tabs competition, and a big thank you to Alexis from Alpha Pi Omega for joining us.

Greek Unity

Welcome to the yard! Congratulations to the Gamma Theta Chapter of Lambda Theta Phi Latin Fraternity, Inc. on crossing their line of nine!
Congratulations to the ladies of Gamma Mu Chapter of Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority, Inc. on crossing their new line! Welcome to the yard!

Chapter Monthly Goals

  1. Sisterhood: Host a memorable going away party for all our seniors graduating this semester.
  2. Scholarship: No missing classes for last two weeks of school.
  3. Leadership: Apply for Outstanding Greek Unity for Multicultural Greek Awards.
  4. Cultural Awareness: Host mental health event focusing on the Asian-American Community.
  5. Service: Successfully host our annual FLOCKED event.

Through our monthly goals last month, we were able to grow as a chapter and refocus on our strengths and weakness to become one active house and sisterhood. Our sisterhood round table (candlelight) was very successful and every sister had the opportunity to voice their opinions. We also had a great time volunteering for the Ronald McDonald house and submitted our Bucky Award applications on time.

Three Semester Goals

  1. Have more sisters get on the presidents list.
  2. Prioritizing and focus on mental health and well-being.
  3. Increase chapter GPA to 3.25!
