Art is very special and unique. The main types of art during this time are folk art. Folk art is known for being ordinary. Also, portraits of different people arepopular. Portraits are valued by not just the painters but also the people who are being painted. Some famous artists right now are Benjamin West and John Singleton Copley but William Hogarth is said to be the most famous of all. The picture above is an example of what folk art looks like."All the world is competent to judge my pictures except those who are of my profession."- William Hogarth
Politics during the Era of Good Feelings is when nationalism started getting popular. One major icon right now is Henry Clay. He believes capitalism is how America would excel. Clay has other plans as well. He wants to make a national bank and tax imported goods. The picture above is a picture of Henry Clay. Clay made many important advancements and had many great ideas during this time. "Courtesies of a small and trivial character are the ones which strike deepest in the grateful and appreciating heart." - Henry Clay
Music during the Era of Good Feelings is very unique and different from other types of music. Music is upbeat and most of the time it sounds happy. There are different types of music. There is African American music, folk, a type of country, the beginning of pop, and classical. Some famous music artists right now are John Philip Sousa, Scott Joplin, James A. Bland, Johann Strauss Jr, Louis Moreau Gottschalk. These are only some of them though because are were many more. A lot of the music that is being made in America right now is religious. To listen to music right now you have to go see it live. That means going to dances, operas, or concerts to hear music. The picture you see above is a picture of an opera during the Era of Good Feelings. "Is it not the business of the conductor to convey to the public in its dramatic form the central idea of a composition; and how can he convey that idea successfully if he does not enter heart and soul into the life of the music and the tale it unfolds?"- John Philip Sousa
In the eyes of the Europeans, America is culturally backwards. America is finally starting to find it's cultural voice in the 1800's. One of the nation's very first writers was James Fenimore Cooper. He writes many books such as The Pioneers and The Last of the Mohicans. One of America's first famous poets was Henry Wadsworth who was from New England. He wrote a few famous poems. Literature is very important in the 1800’s. It teaches people everything they need to know about the outside world."Knowledge is the parent of knowledge. He who possesses most of the information of his age will not quietly submit to neglect its current acquisitions, but will go on improving as long as means and opportunities offer; while he who finds himself ignorant of most things, is only too apt to shrink from a labour which becomes Herculean."- James Fenimore Cooper
One group of people that wouldn't call this time period the Era of good feelings would be African Americans. African Americans are being moved away from their land and being overpowered all around. African Americans are also being discriminated right now and people don't believe they were equal to everyone else. Another group of people that wouldn't call this the Era of good feelings would be women. Women are looked upon as less than men. People see women as not having as much strength as men which led people to believe they shouldn't have as much power. "It is easier to build strong children than to repair broken men."- Frederick Douglas
