Milisa Galazzi's art is on display as part of the THICKET exhibition at the Chazan Gallery at Wheeler. Speaking with our 4th graders during a special Artists' Talk, Milisa shared about being an artist and prompted our students to think critically and express their opinions about the art on display in the Gallery. Excerpt from Your Heart, My Hands

The award-winning memoir by Dr. Arun Singh, one of America’s pre-eminent cardiac surgeons. Dr. Singh, a Wheeler alumni parent, will be honored with this year’s Wheeler Community Spirit Award presented by the School at the annual Students Involved in Cultural Awareness (SICA) Family Potluck on Friday, February 7 and will visit with Middle and Upper School students on February 14, a day devoted to hearts.

As a heart surgeon, I have followed pathways beyond the arterial. I have gone to some amazing places, tested emotional and physical limits (both mine and my patients) and experienced harrowing and awe-inspiring trauma and triumph. I invite you now to come with me as I revisit them to tell you the story of how the boy with the paralyzed hand and undiagnosed dyslexia went on to perform over 15,000 cardiac surgeries, and introduce you to the people whose hearts were entrusted to my hands. Learn how my patients impacted my life and how I impacted theirs.

This Week at Wheeler:We learned about the Lunar New Year from three Lower School Students, and our US Robotics Team participated in round #2 of the FTC qualifiers. Our 9th grade history students closed out a research project by visiting the RISD Museum to experience Renaissance art. The 18 Wheelers are ready for "the Wick" Annual A Cappella Concert, and our fall NuVuX seminar students presented their first semester projects. In other news, junior Jane Josefowicz was awarded $5,000 through the United Way PopTarts "Rep My City" Challenge, and the Providence Children's Film Festival has tickets on sale! We hear a Wheeler student has had his film accepted...more news to come!
